Aww man I kept laughing when the dentist kept singing the items out loud sorta like in a cheer-leading way- IT was hilarious to me lol. I'm glad they acknowledge that they got beat and were a lil humbled. And what was up with the mom/daughter team WOW such hostility!

Or geography questions, like "What's the capital of Denmark?" Wasn't that in the book? And why would they need help to answer that?

They said they didn't have enough money to pay the tolls to get back. How did they know they were going back before they got to Sweden and got the clue?

I was dumbfounded that so many didn't know the capitals of the Scandinavian countries. My son was visiting and watching with me (he's 25) and he immediately said, "Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm". Maybe geography isn't covered in schools anymore? How can you run the AR and not know geography????? Color me gobsmacked.

I would say most people in the US don't know the capitals. I was never taught any of that in school!!

I guess I'm surprised at that. I remember having to learn all the European capitals and other facts about the countries when I was in school. That was when there was still Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and East and West Germany....

I do not remember learning foreign capitals in school. But if I was a far of TAR and knew what to expect I certainly would have done some studying.

When TAR first started, I still had two kids at home. I got a wall map of the world, and we mounted it on a piece of cork on the wall. We would put little push pins in each country they visited and some were somewhat obscure, so the kids would look them up online and learn about them. My kids learned a lot of geography just pinning the stops and tying string from pin to pin to show how they flew to the countries.

WOW what a good mom you are! A neat and fun project with your kids that teaches them. I bet you even taught them about sportsmanship and how to behave and have manners. I never really thought about how TAR could teach us so much.

After a 13 hour ferry ride, 2 hour flight and a drive I credit them for remembering they were in Europe. On the flip side I wonder if the average Scandinavian knows all 50 states and their capitals as well as the territories and can ID them correctly on a map of the US. Do racers ever know or have a vague idea of where they may go prior to racing especially for countries that may require a visa. If they do know than making notes about the country or area would be smart.
