I was very young (kindergarten/first grade) but I do remember this show. Especially Tommy's bit about
"Mom always liked you best!" That's something that would just seem to click with kids for some reason.
I did not fully grasp the whole Vietnam thing going on but I did notice that at a certain point my parents no longer wanted me watching this program. I was also aware when it got taken off the air, and that there was some big controversy about why it was canceled.
Too young to be into the details though.
I also remember Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. More topical humor that was way over my head at that age.
Yeah, I was watching WAY too much television as a young child. As a result, in the words of George Carlin, something went wrong with my brain in the larval stage.
Which show was it that had the Senior Sock (or whatever his name was) he was a sock puppet with a mexican accent, and i think he used to call people Senior.
Also weren't the Muppets featured on these early shows?

I may be thinking Ed Sullivan.
The Muppets were featured on the early SNL episodes, not the Smothers Brothers.
The sock puppet was Senor Wences, and that was the Ed Sullivan Show.

Actually as a kid when the Smothers Brothers were on TV, The actual Muppets were on the show a couple of times before hitting it big on PBS.
SNL had the more adult dragon like creatures also from Henson/Oz called "The Land of Gorch". They kind of were the inspiration for the movie 'The Dark Crystal'
The early muppets were regulars on a lot of variety shows in the 60s like Ed Sullivan & possibly the Tonight waaaay before SNL in the 70s.
