I noticed that he (Chandler Sr.) didn't actually SAY she was dead, he said she was "gone". Could be splitting hairs here, but I'm wondering if maybe she left the cabin when she realized she was sick, and did not know that she had already infected her FIL and children.
Unless I missed some dialogue.
Which has been known to happen

She was in the car with them when they broker through the roadblock. She was the first to get sick so it is pretty safe to say she is dead.
I like Tex but something about him doesnt fit. To me he would fit better if Chandler was killed in the first episode (I like Chandler and dont want him dead. This is just an example) and they were looking for someone to lead them along with Slattery
I watched a few episodes, until I got to the one where they were testing the vaccine on the ultra-heroic crew members and other above and beyond volunteers as the handsome commander looks on with his cultivated steely gaze, and it just got so smarmy, overblown and melodramatic I couldn't stomach it any more.
I deleted it off my disk. Enough.
Yaaayy! I hope season 2 is as good as the first season!
