I'm a fan of documentaries about odd competitions:
Air Guitar Nation
King of Kong (old school video games)
Spellbound (spelling bees)
Wordplay (crossword puzzles)
American Harmony (barbershop quartets)

I could list dozens and dozens...I watch a lot of them! Just a few that come to mind immediately (most should still be on Netflix):

The Imposter
The Queen of Versailles
Blackfish
Sons of Perdition
Limelight
Happy People: A Year In The Taiga
The Short Game
Lost Angels
Kings of Pastry
Klitschko (I'm not a boxing fan, but I enjoyed it anyway)

My current recently watched favorite on Netflix: Particle Fever. Love the science stuff, especially physics and space related. Also the Mark Twain documentary on PBS. Watched part one. Awaiting part two.

Children Underground is a good one. It follows unwanted children who end up on the streets in Romania, and shows their day to day struggles.

I like the 7up series, where they follow peoples lives from childhood through adulthood. There is an American version they aired in the late 90s early 2000s I haven't been able to find that I would like to see again.
