Agree with that sentiment, good to know he's on a series again.
I'm *not* very aware as to what new shows there even were that began last year, so cannot come up with a single best.
Silicon Valley was pretty good-I didn't get all the jokes, but there were plenty of inspired ludicrous moments.
Transparent was another engaging quirky family dramedy with potential.
Does it have to be American ?
Happy Valley was engrossing UK police story.

Grantchester a lot, too-though can't deny it's mostly because of the lead actor.

Last Week Tonight" with John Oliver (on HBO) count ?
If so, I'd nominate that for the best debut of 2014.
