I love the show, it is incredibly cleverly written and I have been pleasantly surprised that all the characters have been allowed to develop and grow with each episode.

Dexter is changing and the self-qualified "monster" is evolving, becoming more human . All the turns and twists keep you riveted and the acting is just superb from the entire cast.

The premise for this show being so odd and seemingly "grotesque", it is really astonishing how well the writers have managed to give us a lot of very real characters, a lot of humanity. And humour. I also like the way it deals with "darkness" . We become sympathetic to Dexter because in essence he is a victim too.

I also love the way that more minor characters have also been greatly developed and that they all become part of the weaving tapestry which unfolds every week . It is not a show which stagnates. It keeps you interested and on the edge of your seat and so far I have not once been even remotely bored the way I quickly became with "Lost" for example.

It allows us to peek into the heart of Darkness but also to understand why that darkness might be.

What a perfect anti-hero, forget Batman this is the real thing ! "Dark Knight" to the core....

You obviously mean The Dark Defender.
Dexter himself acknowledges that he is more The Dark Defender than Batman, The Dark Knight.

I couldn't agree more.

Aren't we all victims of life?
Unfortunately not everyone converts our traumatic experiences into the resolve to rid the world of serial predators.

Our Father (Who art in heaven?)

So this episode's topic will be father & (step)son (and of course brother & sister).
I luv the fact that Dex's moral code more and more resembles (Christian) religion. Dexter obviously is an atheist, but like other American Christians he gets his moral code from his (foster) father and breaking that code will literally fling Dexter into a personal hell.
Unfortunately for Dexter he ended up doing just that; killing an unknown 'innocent' victim by accident.
Somehow I've gotten the feeling that Jimmy Smit's character Miguel Prado could end up being Dexter's surrogate father.
Especially since he's a former prosecutor.

Deb's ambition to finally attain the golden shield to make her father proud is a touching family moment.
The fact that Dex and Rita are getting seriously involved truly is a big change for Dex.

It was a solid 1st episode and I can't wait for episode 2.

Default Fellow Dex-head

I dont have Showtime, but Netflix has season 1 on instant watch, and I was able to find season 2 online. I'm a total addict.

I just watched the (leaked) season premiere of 3. And.. oh my! It was wonderful. Loved that he killed someone seemingly innocent. The new Quinn guy kind of creeps me out. Oh, and loved the surprise sort of ending. Cant wait for more.

^Dexter obviously is an atheist?

Are you saying that a serial killer couldn't be a theist, and has to be an atheist? I'm pretty sure it's quite the opposite in reality.

I assumed most American serial killers are theists (hearing voices of God and/ or believing themselves to be the next messiah), but since Dexter is a scientist he would obviously be an atheist to fit the (American) assumption that scientists are generally atheists.

Total fan of Dexter.

As much as Doakes annoys me, I really don't think that Dexter would be able to kill hm after Doakes catching him taking one of his victims onto his boat.
I would love for him to get rid of Lyla though, she is so annoying and I don't think anyone would blame him.

Wow dude, we are already in the beginning of season 3 and it seems that you're in the end of season 2?
Don't worry though, the end of season 2 is a blast.

Whatever you do, do not read the previous pages of this thread because it spoils the end of season 2.
