This show has outlasted many other of my TV selections this season. Compelling and completely original.

Only one more episode to go. This is a series I would watch again.

There is so much there. And as another poster mentioned, the costumes and sets are superb. And the acting is great too.

The storyline is, shall we say, unique?

It's a very interesting series. I'm not thrilled with the characterization of Stephen Black; but the rest of the TV version is keeping me riveted. The actress playing Lady Pole is doing a particularly fine job.

We watched the first episode. Maybe it is something strange about the way that one program is being presented on our specific cable system (but I rather doubt it) but it seems to me like we're watching a 1970s-era program with 1970s-era production values, especially with regard to sound. Both sound and video seem to me to be muddy rather than dark. We cannot get past this aspect of the program to determine whether or not we care to watch further episodes.

I thank you posters that made me aware that this series is based on a book of the same title. I purchased it the other day (on my Kindle) and am enjoying it very much. Indeed, I quit watching the show (after episode 2) so I can discover plot twists, etc., in the book first.

I had the same reaction. I couldn't even finish the first episode.

I have trouble with understanding dialogue on almost all British series, frankly. It sounds as if they are mumbling. And a lot of times, I don't catch their names.

I don't know if it their poor sound system or my bad hearing. (Maybe both.)

But you don't have to catch every word to understand JSMN. I am really enjoying this series.

What do you object to? I think the actor is fine. I do think the character doesn't have much to do except react to things.

This is a reflection of the poor production values for the program's audio, which I mentioned earlier. I watch a lot of television with a lot of British accents. This program was atypical with regard to the difficulty of understanding what people were saying. I suspect, with these production values, I'd have had trouble understanding American accents from another state.

With regard to not understanding dialog, I find it's often a case of "background" music being way too loud. It's not just British shows. There are several US programs that I just gave up watching because the music and sound effects were cranked up so high, you need to use closed captioning to understand the dialog. That should never be necessary, as I see it. I feel sorry for the actors, whose voices and speaking skills are drowned out.
