I've liked some of the previews I've seen, and the Astronauts are early pioneers that I remember: Wally Shirra, John Glenn, etc. According to Wikipedia, this show was set to air two summers ago. This was such an epic time in space history, so I hope this isn't too much of a soap opera.
I remember the wives as they were followed on camera during the liftoffs, etc. They tended to hang together or seemed to live in the same Houston neighborhood with the other space folks.
There was a book about the lead up to the space program as astronauts were selected, maybe The Right Stuff, and it was interesting , did include wives as secondary characters. It seemed to be a life lived on the edge.

I was always interested in the space program, and I avidly followed the astronauts. That's why I had to laugh when I heard something about "America's love affair..." with the wives. Believe me, they were not front and center, and didn't generate much interest.
I'm going to check it out because I watched "Army Wives" and while it was basically a soap opera, I learned a lot about military life that I never realized. I'm thinking this show will be similar in that respect.

Did anyone see the first episode tonight? I liked it, but I had no idea Sam Sheppard was such a cad! I also knew about Annie Glenn's stutter, it's been shown in other movies, but still, it's another side of the wives. I really enjoyed this episode and I hope they don't go all soap opera on this but make it more a "sisterhood" show, because military wives (which is what these ladies are) stationed together can be a really close knit sisterhood.
