This probably should be in the Science or even the Book forum, but I think AI is a perfect tool for unfinished book sagas or even continuation of story lines. AI augmented computers could be fed the existing novels and other examples of the original author's style and thought and with some human guidance, complete the story and even create spin offs. Definitely not as desirable as having the original author complete the work, but better than a dead end or even attempts by other authors to complete the works (like, for example, the Dune stories written by different authors).

Being a dedicated voice for the human spirit, I would beg to differ. I think Hollywood has operated on what Mad Magazine called something like the "Switcheroo Wheel" for years, just taking one successful show formula and doing the opposite plot line, or randomly combining it with another successful template (All My Zombie Children, that kind of stuff ). Story lines that could be created by a computer. But a computer, by definition, can't be truly creative. Who would want a computer generated story? There are surprising twists to a good story that can only come from a human mind (at least at this point in time). If GRRM isn't capable of finishing the story, I'd much rather see him hand it over to the TV producers, or even to good fanfiction writers who understand and love the characters.
Judging from some of the things he has said in interviews and written on his blog over the past few years, it's pretty easy to figure out that there are 3 main reasons it takes him so many years between books:
1.) He only writes at home, and now that he is a celebrity he is seldom at home. He admits he won't write on the road, yet he continues to attend several conventions across the world every year. Not to mention all of his obligations with his movie theater, other editorial jobs, etc.
2.) His commitment to quality. Which is extremely admirable. He isn't just going to spit out junk. He is REALLY trying to craft the best story.
3.) Even though he won't admit it, I think he's tired of the whole thing. He's been writing this story for well over twenty years now. It has swallowed his life. It's really hard to be passionate about a story when you're just plain tired of it.
If he was really tired of it, why has he put out related books over the last several years? The coloring book, the Dunk & Egg prequels, the Land of Ice & Fire, the pop up book, etc.
Not all Targaryens have white or platinum blonde hair and violet eyes. Aegor Rivers - aka Bittersteel - had black hair and was the bastard son of Aegon IV. He did have the violet eyes, though. Brynden Rivers - aka Bloodraven - had the white hair, but had red eyes. He was also the son of Aegon IV. Shiera Seastar, daughter of Aegon IV, had one blue eye and one green eye. (Aegon IV was the one that had a ton of bastard children - precedent for Jon Snow having non white/silver hair and still being a Targ)
Rhaenys Targaryen - daughter of Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell had dark hair, but was killed by The Mountain as a baby. (precedent for Jon Snow being the son of Rhaegar, though, and having black hair)
Daeron Targaryen also had sandy brown hair.
Jacerys Velaryon, son of Rhaenyra Targaryen had brown hair and brown eyes. Rhaenyra had two other children that also had dark hair and eyes.
This sucks as the TV does not have these info and I thought they were laying a principle in Season 1 that the father's hair is as close as you can get to DNA match to the children. But thanks. Obviously I decided to not read the books to get full satisfaction of the TV show but I thought if Jon would be a Targaryen's son that they should have at least showed examples -- like either Viserys or Dany having black hair to illustrate that what Ned found out is really nothing conclusive OR they could have gotten at least an actor to play Jon Snow who would not look like Mark Addy when he's at that age.

You've also gotta remember that the Targaryens had multiple generations of incest. Rhaella and Aerys Targaryen (the Mad King) were sister and brother as were their parents (Jaehaerys and Shaera Targaryen).

This is probably the biggest roadblock. He's created a pretty big world with hundreds of different characters and subplots scattered over thousands of pages. There are a lot of ends to tie up. And if he doesn't tie them up, then people will complain about the next book being a total load of crap. So I imagine it's been a really tough time for him.

He actually has a full-time consultant, a fan of his work, to assist him with keeping the various character relationships, origins, and related material consistent.
