Good news, bad news: Moffat's gone, but we won't see any DW in all of 2016 except the Christmas special. Even frustrating, confusing, and self-indulgent DW is better than no DW at all. I think.
I'm a fan of Moffat, too, but I have to admit that DW has been off the rails for 3 seasons now. I'll be glad for the change. I haven't consistently enjoyed the show since the Ponds left.
I never cared that much for Clara; and it seemed like the writers loved her, so much that they literally couldn't write her out even though they killed her.

I had no problem with Clara. I have no problem with Capaldi. My problem is with the writing. The stories are gimmicky, and they have turned the Doctor into an a-hole.

I actually prefer a Doctor who is a bit more remote, having sat through the last two who were trying to show how human they can be (falling in love, etc.). Part of the fun of the series is having each Doctor be somewhat different in mannerisms but still The Doctor underneath it all. I can only hope this extended break means Moffat will be more selective in stories chosen for that final season, that he isn't buying scripts under time constraints that aren't fully developed. Many of the stories in his tenure had good initial ideas, but they needed to be tinkered with a bit more, focused around a single 'moral of the story' or some kind of statement. Too often, they seemed to be more interested in showcasing CGI skills rather than writing good stories.
