I recently viewed all the Columbo episodes on Netflix, and loved seeing them again.

Then I'd also created a a detailed guide/list to accompany the above titled:
COLUMBO EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS (episodes arranged sequentially in chronological order of original TV airing)
with detailed episode descriptions coming from TV.COM . . . but it may all be too much to paste in here.
P.S.-- I tried pasting it in (20 pages of data from a Microsoft Word document) and the C-D servers twice rejected my attempts (saying "Bad request"). I guess that is too much for a single posting to encompass.
Thank you so much! I couldn't remember how long the series had lasted. So now, I'm pretty sure I've seen only the first season.
That was a great show, and I'd forgotten how much I liked it at the time. And now, it's a pleasure to view because it's so purely done, without resorting to gratuitous violence and vile language. It was truly from a better time in the history of this republic.
After "Airplane!", "Police Squad", and the "Naked Gun" movies, it can be difficult to take him seriously in any of his many non-comedic roles.
Of course, it's difficult to take that awful remake of "Beau Geste" seriously at all.
To each their own.
Watching his serious acting work, I was never really that impressed with it. He always seemed so wooden. Perhaps his best serious work, IMHO, was The Poseidon Adventure.
As far as Columbo goes, the earlier runs were better than the latter.
The best snare was probably "Negative Reaction" (at 34:22)
.................but the hilarious thing is, there is a simple, non incriminating way for Dick Van Dyke to clear himself, a method that any good photographer (at least back then) should know............
.............................and it's one of the tricks that Columbo himself uses in "Make me a Perfect Murder".
I still remember the parody song from "MAD" magazine (first verse, anyway):
(To the tune of "They Call the Wind Mariah")
You may prefer a character,
Like Donald Duck or Dumbo,
This guy's for real,
A true schlemiel,
And they call the sap Columbo,
Columbo, Columbo,
They call the sap Columbo,
Also remember an episode of "Sanford and Son" where Lamont was trying to impress an African girl by "getting back to his roots" by wearing a dashiki and calling himself "Kalunda". Fred called him "Columbo".
