Me, while I have no problem of cursing, can and do my own fair share, such is done in certain situations, and for certain reasons. When watching a show, however, don't really believe that certain words should be heard [be it radio or TV] - most of these times IMHO its being done for the shock value; sometimes its appropriate, but, too often its there just to get attention. Like a little kid that wants to be noticed. George Carlin, I love his work, have a few of his books, have seen him on stage - and in those occasions, in that atmosphere, very appropriate. Here, for example on a public forum, curse words are not tolerated and are not appropriate - what, are those that say "just turn the TV off if you don't want to watch it" going to say then also "just go to another forum if you don't want to read this"? Sorry, but I also enjoy watching a show, and if they have certain words, they won't be watched - not appropriate when with others watching...

I am very limited in my tolerance for the trash out there in "popular" culture, including the Trash Media. Lots of gutter rats spewing garbage on the screen and getting paid big bucks. So I watch Home and Garden, Food Channel, History Channel and TVLand (the OLD, OLD sitcoms), sometimes the cable news. That's it, the rest is lunacy. Don't get me started on the "reality" shows.....

You're welcome! Far too few people know about that feature, and prefer instead to complain about what they see on the television, when it's so easy to just turn it off and read a book.

Awesome! Wup, There It Is!

If we wanted to have a thread called "how to change the station", Y'all could just have a party over there.

Sometimes, less is more. Have some tact. Bill Cosby is funnier than George Carlin. George was funny at first, but once the polish wore off, now he's prostituting himself around like a fool. George, you're yelling so loudly I can't hear you anymore.

Now when you're watching adult shows like Sopranos, South Park, Nip Tuck (from what I've heard), most of what's on E! and Comedy Central, etc., you're gonna get adult content and it's up to the discretion of a child's parent or guardian to decide what's appropriate to watch.

I'm all about freedom of speech. But we don't like seeing children smoke cigarettes and loading their Ipods up with Techn9ne.

The "S" word is one of those seven forbidden words, right? Are the networks going to follow their own rules or not? If a change is to be made, who should they consult? I would think that the mature viewers should have a say in that, not just be told to "Turn your station" as Mike Tyson suggests.

Shows are rated for content and most if not all cable and satellite services have parental controls that you can use to block shows with mature ratings. People who dislike the shows with adult content can write the networks and have their say. There are also message boards for just about every show and networks and I imagine many advertisers do pay attention to them.

It's up to the forum to decide what words are allowed, some do allow swearing.
