I was watching the second episode of "Ghost Story" (say about 1971-2) last night, where Jason Robards is a forest ranger and his wife, Stella Stevens, is bored with him and hooked on TV. A couple of questions I have from that.

First of all, if you were going to take someone to an isolated location, would you give them a TV or some other form of entertainment (which could include anything electronic as well (but the hermit in me says it should be books)) to keep them company while you were gone?

Secondly, that was the early 70s, mind you, so in the modern age, could anyone exist without some form of visual electronic entertainment at all? Be it TV on airways, be it cable, be it on the Net, be it streaming, be it DVD, be it whatever?

A cabin in the forest? Where do I sign up? So many things to keep one occupied. I see kids all the time around here at a lake or hiking glued to their machines. Sad.

As I joke, I think my relatives, if they visited, would "starve" to find out that there is no wi fi....not that satellite internet is that great, anyhow. I'm only 10 miles outside of town but that is what is available between DSL, radio (rated worse than satellite), and that.

That said, as said before, I would hope that my vast book library would keep someone happy. That is the kind of life I grew up with at the family beach house.

That, however, was decades ago......can those of the current world deal with such a separation?
