Did Samwell reveal his intended destination? I don't recall any place being mentioned. It would seem like he has gathered information useful in fighting the Army of the Dead, so he logically would be headed for where he thinks he will find Jon Snow. That would be Winterfell or The Wall, which is a long way from Oldtown, but of course I think we may safely assume that Sam is driving one of those Boeing 767 Carts and that the travel time will be no more of a hindrance for him than it is for anyone else.

I would have thought Samwell not being in the last episode would have made those complaining about the timeline happy, but I guess not.

Yup, looks like you were wrong. In an upset, I decided to post what I wished without reference to the angst it might generate within you.

Did the group leave a trail of breadcrumbs for Gendry to follow? Did he have Google maps to help him?
As cold as it was, seeing Gendry running full out for who knows how far/long, threw me back to "WindRiver", new movie out w/Jeremy Renner as a Fish/Game predator hunter in Wyoming who discovers a young Arapaho woman he knows, dead in the snow after she had run a long distance...obvious signs of foul play including the fact she has no shoes and frostbite up to her ankles...
Cause of death was pulmonary embolism...(so technically not homicide)
the air breathed while running full out was so cold it froze the blood in her lungs' capillaries and caused them to ruptured

So another aspect of a real-world situation that bends reality to GoT's parameters...

There have been many instances throughout the entire show that make no sense except for having to draw out the story. Last episode's big one was why the night king took the much harder shot at the flying dragon instead of the closer, non-moving Drogon with Dani perched on his back. Just showing off his prowess with the ice spear I guess.

Yes...I noticed that missing element...but it is just a glaring reminder that the show runners are arbitrary in what they choose to move the plot forward...
If they had gotten to Jon too soon, he might find out he is legitimate which would mean obvious blood tie to Dany...

But it would also make him immediately more vulnerable to Littlefinger's hatred, maybe turn Sansa and Arya against him since he is not a Stark but IS King in the North...
and probably make the other lords of the North suspect his intentions if he bends the knee to Dany...
Most people think that piece of long-overdue info would be a plus for Jon...
but there was a reason Ned kept quiet, endured all Cat's spite, and allowed Jon to take a back/shamed seat...

Of course, Ned might NOT have known about the annulment and marriage that legitimized Jon...
but he certainly knew he was from a ROYAL, if mad, house...
He found Gendry, was going to protect him, and treat him as a son of Robert Baratheon not just as proof of Cersei's incest with Jamie, but because these guys think Royal/noble blood carries qualities, character elements that "ennoble" anyone with it...

Heck...even Ramsey was recognized for,his "great" qualities...

Maybe it's time for a spin-off "Game of Thrones is stupid and for some reason I'm watching it and posting about it even through I dislike it" thread.

Yeah, if one fictional character couldn't run in the cold, no other fictional characters can run in the cold. Quod erat demonstrandum.

He still has the same amount of Stark blood running through him as if he were really Ned's bastard.

His grandparents were Ned's mother and father. He is their first cousin instead of their half brother.
