About them walking to the island that Jon and his team were on, after the ice broke.
The wights should have been able to simply walk along the bottom and reach the island, bust up through the ice and attack. They don't drown, and being cold obviously isn't a problem for them. Why did they have to wait for the surface to freeze over. And if it was cold enough the the surface to freeze over to start with, why did they fall through in the first place?

North of the wall has been freezing cold for a very long time.

When has the show said they can simply walk along the bottom of a body of water? You can't use a Disney movie to claim that an HBO fantasy show has plot holes.

What you describe would require them to swim, which has been stated on the show as something they cannot do. Either they would have to swim down to the bottom, or they would have to swim to the surface depending on if they float or sink in water.

Another Walking Dead thread, complete with arguments about what the undead can and cannot do

Except they might not be able to crack the ice over their head when they move to another location. If that were easy, then a lot of REAL people would not drown when they fall through the ice.

ORRR, Jon was lying, or "mistaken", when he said the Wights couldn't swim.

Those that still have some meat on their bones might be able to. OTOH, if they can make use of chains, who is to say they couldn't build boats? They could probably find a sunken ship and raise it, repair it and sail away. That might be about the time I stop watching the show. The Orrville would start seeming more sensible.

The whole series is fantasy; there are no dragons, walking dead, or people coming back from the dead. But fantasy has to have a logical progression to pull us into the story. Leaving out small details, like where did the chains come from, cast doubt on that progression. It would not cast doubt to think that walking dead could simply walk on the bottom of a lake or ocean - since they do not breathe. We were fed the story of how the White Walkers were created from the Children of the Forest trying to protect themselves and then the Children lost control. That is the progression; the web the writer/s weave. The writers could have kept the progression with the chains on the dragon by simply showing the dead armies using chains off a sunken, frozen, ship - it would have been a logical progression.
