She and Jon could have hopped a dragon, thrown some some dragon glass arrows in their pockets, taken a gander at the walkers, and snatched a few to bring back to show Circe, and been back in time for lunch.

I know, I know, suspension of disbelief . . .
Probably for the same reason Frodo and Gandalf didn't hop a ride on an eagle to get rid of the One Ring in Mt. Doom.

What's taking the White Walkers so long to get to the Wall? Does the Wall have a big beautiful door in the middle of it? And did Mexico pay for it?

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks the writing this season is by far the weakest to date. Rushing at a breakneck pace and very shoddy plotting and character development.

Has the show changes writers? Or are the showrunners just tired? I get the impression that meetings in the writers' room this year all ended with, "Argh! I'm so tired of this! Just end it already!"

It's sad that this season the show LOOKS better than it ever has. But the writing is the worst it has ever been.

Agreed, but the show is well outpacing the source material and they don't have the money for 10+ episodes.

There's no book to base the dialogue off of for one. The first season of Game of Thrones started in 2011, right when Dance of Dragons came out. The man has had 6 years to get at least one book out and has failed to do so. But I'm sure Martin has given them plot points.

Secondly, the show has gotten criticism for being too slow back when there were 10 episode seasons because there would always be an episode or two with fluff. Now that we're getting to the end, it feels rushed. I don't agree. They have had 60 episodes of build up that has led to all of this. Bran wasn't even in a Season b/c his arc was put on pause. How many scenes have the White Walkers had per season? 3? You know how tired I am of just having scenes where they're walking doing nothing?

That's the problem with shows nowadays, they stick around longer than their expiration date. I think Breaking Bad did it right with the template, get out while you're on top.

I disagree. I think the show is fine as is and I, for one, don't miss the fluff and the slow episodes of previous years. This is when I'm glad that I haven't read the books (likely won't). It gives me blank slate, so to speak, to judge the show solely on its merit as a show and nothing more.

I think what you're seeing now is moving the pieces on the board in order to set up the conclusion.

Arya and Baelish? Setting up a confrontation where Sansa has to choose. Do you think she doesn't know who betrayed her father to the Lannisters after spending time as a captive? Or Arya doesn't?

Cersei's pregnant, supposedly with Jaime's child (in the book it might be a toss up since she was dallying with a couple of the King's Guard). Knowing she's pregnant can he kill her if she goes completely of the edge of the dock?

Sam (who technically wasn't allowed to have a live in woman) leaves the Citadel. Does he put 2 and 2 together vis a vis Rhaegar? He knows the "Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna" story.

Jaqen H'Gar would have offed Littlefinger within hours of meeting him - and made it to look like a plausible accident.

But Samwell Tarly doesn't know R+L=J.

The only one who knows and is still alive is Howland Reed

...and maybe the two servants at the Tower of Joy

...and everyone who watches the HBO series.

I thought Bran knows everything now. He's the Three-Eyed Raven.
