Did anyone tune in to watch the much hyped Discovery show that kicked off their Shark Week where Michael Phelps the Olympic guy was to race a Great White shark?

https://www.vox.com/2017/7/23/160178...-shark-who-won

I watched about 10 minutes of it and thought is "racing the shark" anything like or possibly the new term for "jumping the shark" which is a term from TV's "Happy Days" where the Fonz jumped over a shark on water skis and the term has become synonymous with the death knell ending to a once good show?

The Discovery channel gets a A+ for building hype, a B for the scientific approach but the actual race ...
a big yawn...

I think FOX had a show years ago where it was Man V Animal and it was somewhat short lived.

Did you watch Phelps race the shark?

Didn't watch, but what amazes me is that there are people who are outraged because they thought they were going to be watching Phelps actually racing a live great white.

Just when I think that people can't get any stupider ...

well said. I didn't watch in part because the one thing I knew wasn't going to happen was Phelps in the same water with a shark.

See...now that would have been freaking awesome! Knew that wasn't going to happen, but still would have been cool if it did. Oh and I did not watch.

P T Barnum does it again!

I didn't/ wouldn't watch it

Besides, everyone knows that sharks do not swim in straight lines (other than the viewers who were disappointed)

Yes exactly.
I thought they were going to have Phelps in a cage or something to protect him but the only way a shark is going to swim like it is in a race is if it is chasing it's lunch or it is being chased by something bigger and hungrier.

Discovery Channel gets a A+ for building the hype but the let down was bigger.

It is funny how many people are really mad and feel they have been cheated.
