Watched episode 2 of this new BBC series last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's set during the Napoleonic wars with the British using magic to thwart the dastardly French.

The book is superb. Though the TV was good, the book was very descriptive. Read before ye watch!

I loved the book. I hope this series will make its way across the pond in some form or another.

This is a bit like a Harry Potter prequel for grownups. Not literally, I mean, because the mythology is different. But it is smart and funny, well made. If you like magic/magicians and/or British period pieces, it is an amazing combination.

I just watched a scene in episode 2 that absolutely stunned me, followed by a good guffaw.

I can't wait to read the book!

I read the book when it came out, and I confess I've forgotten a lot of it. I thought it was interesting at the time, although not perfect. I've seen the first two episodes. I had forgotten the bit about the Black servant. And about the women who had to dance all night.

So far the show is good, I think. It goes deep as I remember. It takes twists and turns. I do think the costumes and sets are really good as well. So, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I just saw the second episode. I like the show! Anyone know how many episodes this summer? Will it go on next year, or is it just for this year?

The book is pretty convoluted and involves a lot of characters.

I have tried reading the book and couldn't get into it. Too much mood. Not enough story.

This show is progressively getting darker and more interesting. The production values with period rooms and clothing are superb.
