Seriously, no it doesn't.

We have the slowest internet you can get, it's one step above dial-up, and we both watch Netflix on different devices at the same time with absolutely no problem.

can you be a little more specific about your speed?
And for experimental purposes can you stream youtube videos on two smart phones while watching Netflix on two different devices?

How do you detect Internet speed?
Last thing I want to do is get Netflix and find the internet is unusable for everyone else in the house.

Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Netflix offers a free trial. Try it out and see how it affects you. Also once you are signed up you can go into your account and lower the video quality. I lowered mine to "Medium" which is DVD (not Blu Ray) quality and it looks beautiful and it doesnt hog bandwidth.

Yes, I was thinking of giving Netflix a free trial but I am pretty sure it will cause problems for the other heavy internet users in my house. Nobody does gaming but they are all online a lot. Either way, if there are problems, I can just cancel the trial so I don't get charged for it.

Its not going to cause any problems, especially if they're just online and not doing something that uses a lot of bandwidth. Its not even something I would mention to anyone else in the household. Otherwise you might end up with some sort of placebo effect where they think the internet is slower because of a Netflix, but it's really working just as it always had.

This

The stuff that chews up bandwidth for the average household is streaming music, steaming videos and playing interactive games on the Internet. Browsing websites and posting on social media doesn't put a dent in capability. As others have pointed out you can try for free.
