....and escape from the tensions of life?

I've been thinking about this lately, and wondering, for example, why I can watch Fixer Upper, over and over and still like it? I mean, I'm thrilled to watch one for only the third time, and I've seen them all at least 6 times.

I finally decided it was because there is a total absence of strife. It's all rainbows and unicorns.

I have a friend who keeps QVC on all day long, with the sound turned off. That's her tranquilizer. I talked to a man who watches a whole lot of the Hallmark channel for the same reason.

Do any of you do this? If so, what do you watch?

The Golden Girls. Those women remind me of my grandmother and great aunts. The theme song chills me out perfectly.

House Hunters International. Everyone is upbeat* and it's fun, interesting, and relaxing to see people in a good mood looking at all different kinds of homes in exotic settings.

*Except for one I saw where there was a teenaged girl who clearly did not want to move, and who looked like she had eaten a bag of lemons throughout the entire thing.

To put myself in an pleasant, easygoing mood people would probably laugh at what I enjoy watching when I want to bring it down a notch or two.

General Hospital and also The Journey Home on EWTN. I'm not even Catholic, just enjoy listening to the spiritual journey people go through during their lifetime. The host does a nice job.

General Hospital probably because I got roped into watching it everyday when I was in high school and babysat two little girls who insisted on watching it. There's often a sense of humor worked into the show along with the ridiculous circumstances the characters find themselves in. It's familiar I guess since I've been watching it so long.

Usually an old sitcom. Lately I have been watching "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley", and "The Brady Bunch"

If I have a really stressful day I like to watch Seinfeld, the Goldbergs, or The Big Bang Theory. Some comedy I can laugh at and play as background noise.

If I need a quick perk-me-up (low-grade), I can watch a few episodes of The Golden Girls and be good as new. I also find General Hospital a great diversion, though not as much in recent months.

If the situation is a bit more dire, I can watch a few sketches (not even complete episodes) of Monty Python's Flying Circus and feel better, even as I recite the lines along with the actors. The unbridled silliness, combined with the British accent, works every time.
