My friend is on a Good Doctor forum. She told me earlier this morning that a person who seems to have something to do with the show said "things are not what they seem" in connection to Jared leaving. I hope that means what it sounds like!
Freddie Highmore did a wonderful job writing, directing and producing the episode. He's such a top-notch actor.
So looking forward to the rest of the season.
I hope (what I bolded) is true, because for me this program has just enough characters that I really dislike that after he seemingly left the show last night, I considered stopping watching the whole series.

The autistic/Aspergers thing is getting old.
Well, there’s not much that he can do about his autism. It doesn’t magically go away!
And, like everyone else, I’m glad that the new season is here!

That's exactly what I told me friend. "Jared has to be a very popular character, some people may stop watching after last night's episode!!" That would be a shame. I used to threaten that to my tv, I would stop watching if "my" character left but I don't do it. I can't imagine not have gotten to know Zeva on NCIS after Kate was so unexpectedly killed.
Like Hapa said, there is nothing Shaun can do about his autism but I am enjoying seeing his life blossom. IRL I don't think people with autism have such understanding, caring support.
To be very truthful, that is why I avoid people who act "strange" because you never know. Just yesterday I saw a young(ish) man standing on the side of an entrance/exit to WallyWorld. I am so used to seeing panhandlers up North doing this that I didn't notice he was just waving and smiling to cars. Made me feel bad that I didn't toot my horn. Autism didn't enter my mind but schitzo, bi-polar, homeless did. So I would have not interacted with him anyway.
I didn't understand him saying to Dr. Glassman, 'I am going with you'.
Glassman said "it's a journey I have to take alone." That was Shaun's answer to him. Get it?
