I get the impression that the struggle over Jack will be between Cas and Lucifer.

I think the actor playing Jack must have watched a lot of the earlier seasons when Cas was basically new to the world of humans and was trying to understand how things work here. Jack had many of the same lost and confused mannerisms that Cas had in his early episodes. Jack will probably be around for a couple of seasons, the show seems to stick with the same plot lines for about that long - men of letters episodes, Cas and the leviathans episodes, etc.
I think Cas will be back. Dean did pray to god/Chuck, and, there was something about the shot of the smoke rising from his pyre that made me think Chuck will take the smoke(Cas essence) and put Cas back together. I wonder if the new Cas would be an early version of Cas(mentally/emotionally), be the way he was at the time he'd been killed, or, be a completely different Cas(he'll have the same 'meat suit' but a different personality)
I think the show got reamed by fans when they killed Bobby off (I wish they hadn't killed him off), and Bobby was nowhere near the central character that Cas had become. Makes a good twist though, Cas gets killed off--oh no, everybody sad .. Cas returns--yea, everybody happy. Plus, Sam and Dean are stuck with Jack, without a clue about how to deal with him. They can't ship him off to heaven since the angels have proven that they can't be trusted around Jack. Yep, Cas will show back up eventually, say "I'm back" and take Jack under his wing. Cas and Jack would probably stay fairly close to Sam and Dean, they can't go to heaven like Cas had planned, because of the angels, and the show will have to have Jack around for their plot point for the next year or two, or three. Then Jack will have grown, emotionally, leave the nest and go off on his own (Cas will mope around for awhile with empty nest syndrome, lol). Then the brothers and Cas will be off on their next big adventure.
