Was watching s2 ep 2 and suddenly...just lost it. Its all about the Queen worrying about her man. I realize its not a documentary about the changes or activities Quenn Elizabeth was involved in but really. It just started to seem like a very well produced soap opera and rather insulting to the Queen as well. Turned it off, not interested, see this everywhere, whatever.
It'll be interesting to see how many seasons they do and how close to current times they get. I wonder who they'll get to take over the role of the Queen. I couldn't really see Claire Foy playing a nonagenarian. ;-)
I finished the second season a little while ago ... enjoyed it, though not as much as the first season. I actually kind of missed Churchill and could have used more Margaret. And considering how extraodinary the casting has been on this show, it was very disappointing to see how distractingly bad the casting of the Kennedys was.
I agree about the flashbacks. Hard to keep little Philip at school separated from little Charles at school. And I thought the Kennedys were awful. The other thing that bothered me was Philip standing in the bedroom while Eliz. was giving birth. That was awkward. It was like he was in a trance.
From reading about this TV series, I have gathered that MUCH of it is true to fact. Not alot has been inserted that did not happen, one way or another. I wonder what the Queen is thinking about her life presented this way on TV?
It's good, but I'm not enjoying it as much as Season 1. For two reasons, I think:
No Lithgow.
Yes, I miss John Lithgow. I also miss Jared Harris, who's been one of my favorite actors since Mad Men. I've enjoyed Jeremy Northam as well.
One thing that I'm mixed on is how Tommy Lascelles seems to be still popping up. Not sure it makes sense for him to still be around since he's now retired, but I love the actor's smarmy, arrogant portrayal of this character. He's really one of my favorites, LOL.
I watched the first episode, but I found this season uninteresting so far. Too much family drama. The capturing of the Suez Canal should have the focus. I may continue the show later, but I’m putting it on standby for now. With season 3 not coming out for at least a year, I figure I have plenty of time to watch this if I want to.

To me, the purpose of the series is "The Crown" at the more personal level. If it were just a series about modern British history, I wouldn't be watching.
Exactly. The whole point of the series is delving into the family dynamics.
