Jack O'Connell who plays Roy Goode really grew on me as each episode played out couldn't help but root for the guy. I would have liked to have seen
Spoiler
the reunion with his brother
at the end but it was a great ending. Roy
Spoiler
not staying with Alice
I didn't feel so badly for her as
Spoiler
I did for son Truckee which all through the show I thought his name was Chuckie!

As far as a 2nd season I don't know if they'll do one but if so I would have liked for them to look into the women's lives a little more than they did in season 1. If they don't do #2 it was like reading a good novel it ended with most things wrapped up and left you wondering about the cast members lives.

Bumping this back up. I gave it another shot after being "not hooked" by the first episode. Glad I did. Each episode was better than the last and the finale was perfect.

I missed that Asa was somehow related to the squatters on Alice's land.

About halfway through it, very slow moving & lots of unnecessary & lackluster character expositions, could be done better & I like long leisurely movies too (Barry Lyndon one of my favorites). It suffers against Lonesome Dove not only with pace of story but character development, I'm not giving up though & will finish tonight.

Ok, finished it at 2nd binge viewing.... this was a good 4 hour miniseries that they unfortunately made into a 7 hour series that lingered long on peripheral characters, & those characters' relationships, with lot's of long sequences of quiet staring & slow dialogue & more staring. The problem was that all these secondary characters are introduced for some reason but we don't really get to know them ( the foreign artist, the babbling twins, the ladylike town character, etc...) Even for those who are interesting & we get to know we really don't get to know them well, unless you consider slo-mo b&w flashbacks & then cut back to staring faces as character development.

And then the climactic battle, done well, but Jeff Daniels character sitting still in the middle of all that firepower, staring like some zen evil Yoda was ridiculous.

As I said, this isn't a bad series & I acknowledge that most folks seem to like it, I just think they needed to edit it more tightly to bring in sharper focus the main characters' motivation. This doesn't stand up against miniseries like Fargo or True Detective or Broadchurch, let alone The Sopranos or Lonesome Dove. I haven't seen Deadwood so can't comment on that.

Not a bad series, but I'm glad that the ending was final, I was fearing an open ended "to be continued" style conflict.
