Due to a major upheaval in my life, I quit watching it this season (although it was beginning to lose me anyway) but sorta following the gist by this thread. It sounds like I haven't missed much. I know that my parents, who lovED the show, went ahead and watched this season but said they're probably done with it too. It's a shame too because the first 2 seasons I thought it was the best thing on tv.
What a hot mess! I really disliked that episode and found my myself not watching. I get it, artsy whatever but that was dull and pointless. I agree that losing Ragnar lost the focus of the show. That's a big problem. Leaving the season where it is doesn't make want to see what happens next, sadly. Anyhoo, was that Rollo on the boat? I honestly wasn't paying close enough attention at that point.
Not that I am watching this season--but was on the TV forum and just throught to check out comments---
It is not unlike a powerful ruler to support someone who can cause havoc against his enemies and then step in to counteract and take over
This has happened with other types of alliances in the past
And Rollo from what I remember was not very trustworthy if he wanted something for himself
The episode required a lot of patience on the viewer's part while they did their dream sequences for the characters they were killing off, but the problem was that this was an awful lot of time being devoted to what was essentially the deaths of marginal characters. Snaefrid we had barely met and yet we spent a lot of time on her death in the forest. Halfdan wandering around in the sand was confusing, but again, his death was a "who cares?" moment, he was never a big part of the storyline. Astrid went to her death leaving us still perplexed about where her loyalties lie.
Worst of all, they prepped us for Lagertha's death, even had her saying more than once that she expected and was prepared to die this day...but she didn't.
I thought Astrid's loyalty was pretty clear at the end. She went to Lagertha and asked that she kill her. I don't want to imagine what they would do to her had she carried the baby to term, because you know that baby's paternity issue was going to pop up. But Astrid put herself in that position for Lagertha. A kind end for friend.
At the end, it looked like Lagertha's hair went white?
I didn't care about Snaefrid. I was a bit sad for Halfdan.
Ubbe's wife is a bag of cats. I don't like her. She's not bright at all and she needs to leave.

They don't show it but Lagertha and Floki must be pretty old by now.

In one review I read the author complained about how Vikings had given up on any sense of "time".
One complaint he had was how fast Rollo sent an army given that they didn't have much of a standing army back then, they had to conscript one on an as needed basis. And why would he even bother for nephew he barely knew and hadn't seen in years?

Especially against Bjorn, who he was much closer to.
I think I have given up on the show. I don't like any of the characters anymore. Though I am curious about the appearance of Rollo.
