Not necessarily when sick and staying home from school, but in the summer while school was out I always watched Price is Right at 11am, and Matlock at noon.
My must watches are (I work in education, so I get part of the summer off) Let's Make a Deal, The Price is Right, and The Chew. I also like watching the noon local news because I'm just a news nerd and it's nice to see different faces in the morning than in the evening. I could always record these shows, but it's not the same. To me, you have to either be sick to watch them or on vacation from work.
When I was a kid (back in the mid 50s to mid 60s), I'd watch one game show after another, plus any sitcoms like "I Love Lucy" that came on during the daytime hours. I can remember calling my mother in to the room where I was lying on the couch and telling her to please find a channel that didn't have one of those shows on "that's just a lot of grown-ups arguing." I was talking about all of the soapies.
When I was a kid home sick, we had cable, but it was only on the basement TV so any TV watching would be done on the couch in the family room with the Big 3 networks, PBS, etc. Even as an older kid I'd end up watching the educational programming on UHS, Bob Ross, sometimes game shows, but it was boring.

We didn't have TV in the bedrooms. I remember listening to hours and hours of KDKA Radio.
