Well first, freedom of speech protects from Government persecution not protecting the right to spout off at an awards show. Second, would you want the cook at a restaurant you're eating at to stand there and ramble on about their political views? No difference.

The contribution to the economy by the entertainment industry is is also quite large, so Americans who don't like films or actors can complain all they want. It does not really matter. There is a bigger picture.

I always find it amusing when Americans who claim to 'not watch tv or films' think that matters. Our entertainment industry is global and there is no issue with protectionism, because the US provides entertainment around the entire world, while contributing to the US economy and employment.

"...The creative industries in the United States are a major driver of economic growth, contributing $698 billion to the nation’s economy – about 4.32% of U.S. goods and services, according to a new report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)...."

Same could be said for the porn industry.
