I spent the last couple weeks figuring out what America's most successful sitcoms of all time are. I started with shows that were in Top 20 the most time, Top 10 most time and a Top 5 Sitcom for the most time. then shows were Number 1 the most, Number 2 the most, etc. Then I listed shows that were in Top 10 (But not in Top 5) by the number of times they appeared, Then shows that appeared in the Top 20 the most but were never in the Top 10. I Also did Show in the Top 10 the most that were aTop 5 Sitcom at least once.

Could success also be measured in longevity.

I would put The Simpsons ahead of several on that list simply from it being on for several decades and the revenue it has generated has to be astronomical when it comes to merchandise, syndication, advertising, etc.

That because The Brady Bunch was never in the Top 30 and Diff'Rent Strokes was only in The Top 20 once and in the Top 30 twice. Neither of them (especially Brady Bunch) were successful Sitcoms. Different Strokes did mediocre at best. I do have a long list which Diff'rent Strokes is on but is still way below 50. I only posted the first 50

There are probably a lot of factors that could skew this decade by decade but on the whole I dont think this list surprises anyone. These are on most people lists of greatest sitcoms

Married w/Children may have been at a broadcasting disadvantage.. at the time (mid & late 80s), I don't think FOX had nationwide coverage yet (?)
Married was playing in fewer markets than NBC, CBS sitcoms.. am I remembering right ?
