This is just silly.

Did the writer forget that the show had already been renewed for a new season BEFORE Roseanne self-destructed?

That comment makes no sense. The pilot episode they viewed before signing the contract for the full season order featured Roseanne as a Trump vote. Roseanne Barr was a noted Trump voter in real life. If they were going to blackball Trump voters the current iteration of the show would have never occurred.

Under that theory, let's say a movie makes $500 million dollars. They release a sequel, and it loses $200 million. They don't say "well, we made $300 million overall, let's release another sequel", they say "that lost a crapload, let's quit".
I understand completely how it works and am well aware that season 2 would be seen as a loss. My point was simply that on the whole the reboot made them a profit

Using your analogy it would be like saying (which gets said often) "the franchise was profitable". It doesnt break down each movie when talking as a whole.

I realize that. How could it be anything other than an opinion piece? Everyone who is speaking about this issue is giving their opinion.

If you read the article, you would see that the author said they were just waiting for Roseanne to do something to give them a reason to fire her.

Isn't it basically being said that it's OK for black people to be racist, but not white people?

or.. Perhaps more accurately.. White people don't care if black people are racist? I hear "Honky" and I don't think racist, I think Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase doing "Word Association" and just can't stop laughing.

Probably better for Great Debates.. But a racist black person would be, if not celebrated, not condemned as much as a racist white person.. Until it is unacceptable, regardless of which side it is coming from.. It will never go away. And.. Hey.. Until we stop thinking of it as "sides", it won't go away.

It was always intended to be an ensemble show. Roseanne did not create the show, did not create the characters, and she did not write the scripts.

She was cast in the show just like the other actors were cast in the show.

Carsey Werner had seen Roseanne on the Tonight Show and saw her standup show and thought she might be able to transform herself into the working class heroine in the show, since she had her "domestic goddess" schtick going in her comedy act. The show was originally scripted to be called "Life and Stuff," according to its creator, head writer and co-executive producer, Matt Williams.

Roseanne eventually insisted the show be renamed for her and made that a condition of her taking on the role. Creative differences with Matt Williams ensued and Williams ended up eventually leaving the show.

Carsey Werner legally owns and controls the show and it's up to them to determine what to do with it, if anything. Carsey Werner sided with ABC on their decision to cancel 'Roseanne' and publicly supported the reason for the cancellation. They went on to issue a statement they hope Roseanne gets the (mental health) help she very much needs.

because Roseanne Barr created the show with the original executive producers, she has a financial stake in it and its characters. It's unclear which specific ones she created, but we're told the network is doing its due diligence to avoid a lawsuit.

Dumbest thing I ever read.

Roseanne was cancelled because she can't keep her twitter fingers still. Two hours AFTER she vowed to quit twitter - she was back on making vile remarks.

It would never have stopped - that's the problem. Her twitter feed has been a hot mess for years.

ABC can't afford to be completely defined by Roseanne Barr's mental illness and that's exactly what would have happened.

Latest reports are the Roseanne Barr is considering giving up (for the right price I am sure) her intellectual property stake in the show so it can move forward.

Sounds like ABC and Carsey-Werner will write her a check to be rid of her and move forward with the show.

Would something similar work today?
Harper was fired after the second season. Read about the series here.
