I like the idea of a follow-up, like Frasier in a new city (Chicago, I think he headed to in the final show). MIght be worth a revisit, and a watch if it happens.
I hear Grammer is currently meeting with writers who are pitching different concepts for the potential followup series. If the producers settle on a writer and a premise, the project could move beyond exploratory stage. Reps for Grammer and CBS TV Studios declined comment.
Mixed feelings. I *loved* Frasier, and occasionally still watch it late at night when I'm flipping. By far (IMHO), the best written & acted sitcom of the last 25 years.
But... it's very hard to catch lightning twice. There were so many amazing parts to the recipe, and that's why it's still the most Emmy winning sitcom ever. There was the family interplay between Frasier, Niles & their dad (RIP). The decade-long undercurrent of Niles towards Daphne. The work setting, with Frasier playing off Roz, and all the characters from the station. And all the guest stars, who played love interests, work interests and general cameos.
And Eddie. Eddie made the show.
I just don't know if that can be duplicated. As I understand, they are looking to carry it forward with Grammer as Frasier, but no other original cast. Not sure how I feel about that.
If it was me, I'd let it rest in peace, as the greatest sitcom ever. Or perhaps tied with Seinfeld, although they are really different types of series.

I can certainly understand that point of view as well, well said.
I loved Frasier. It still stands as one of the best sitcoms ever made. And yes, it was better than Cheers.
But doing this show without John Mahoney? I don't see it.
If they do proceed, it should definitely be an all-new premise. In the series finale, wasn't Frasier headed for San Francisco? Maybe he could team up with Adrian Monk to solve mysteries.

I think that's what they are talking about, and yeah, it was San fran...I had Chicago in my head for some reason.
I don't think they could make this work without John Mahoney he was the show he and eddie and they are both hopefully finally home . RIP eddie and John .

Frasier was going to accept a job in San Francisco, but he had changed his mind and he's seen on the plane flying to Chicago to be with Charlotte who he had been seeing for the last few episodes of the series. Of course, that wasn't known until the end of the episode when the stewardess, or pilot, announced that they had landed at the chicago international airport.
I don't think a Frasier reboot would be as good without all the original cast. And without John Mahoney it just wouldn't be the same. I know the reboot would be about a new chapter in Frasier's life, but I would always be comparing it to the original show. For me, it would come up short.

I could possibly see it if Frasier got married and had one of the in-laws move in with him. Dvid Hyde Pierce would be sorely missed, he's quite good with physical comedy.
