"Ozymandias" received universal critical acclaim and was described by several publications as the series' best episode, as well as one of the greatest episodes of television ever produced.
It is SO WEIRD that you post this. I was having a conversation with my nephew and "Best Episode in TV" came up. I actually mentioned Ozymandias. I really can't think of anything better. #2 would be the Battle of the Bastards in Game of Thrones.
Half Measures, Full Measures, Hermanos, Salud, Felina and Phoenix are all episodes that I'd put alongside Ozymandias. I'm not certain I can sit here and pick which was the best. There's probably others that I'm not thinking of right now.. The whole series was just so good.. I really liked the Don Eladio episodes, which is why you see them both listed.
Season 2 was really good, then Season 3 topped even that.
Supposedly, the original written scripts, Hank and Gomez were to die at the end of To'hajiilee.. The scene was moved to the start of Ozymandias for better pacing, apparently. Hard to argue with that.
Just kinda curious, if we look at a top-10 list or two.. How many of my top episodes made that list?
They put Dead Freight up there, and.. I wasn't overly a fan of that one. Fly.. Ok.. I can see that.. Face Off.. Very good. 4 Days Out.. Boy, yeah, that is an underrated episode. I didn't think of that one, but that one was like this great character development episode between Walt and Jesse. ABQ, you know, I picked the previous episode, Phoenix, where Jane actually dies.
I was inspired and read the Wikipedia article about Ozymandias. I never noticed that most of the characters at some point sink to their knees in despair. This is a reference to the poem Ozymandias "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone..."

Those are all great episodes in there own Right but, i Personally think Ozymandias stands above all those episodes.
Walt had been the luckiest man on earth up to that point, and it all came crashing down in 50 mins of great T.V. Imho.
They pick Ozymandias as #2, and the finale Felina, as #1. Yet in their analysis, it seems clear they actually favor Ozymandias, but give the nod to Felina because it's the finale.
Felina is one of the best, if not THE best, finale in TV history. But nothing, nothing comes close to the impact Ozymandias had on the entire story of Walter White & Breaking Bad.
I wouldn't be able to pick a best Breaking Bad episode, to me it's hands down the best TV series ever. And I am kind of old and have watched lots. But a couple of my favorites were "One Minute" and, of course, "Face Off".
I'm not saying it was a bad episode or anything.. But.. I kinda look back on that episode as "The Great Train Robbery with a kid being killed at the end".. A little too much action-adventure for the show for my tastes, perhaps. It seemed almost cartoonish in a way. and, in a bad way compared to when Jesse and Walt hit the chemical storage place back in.. I think it was Season 2. That was cartoonish as well, but a more believable cartoonish.. If that makes any sense at all.
Just, not one of my favorite episodes and certainly not in the top 10 for me.
I think you can probably tell by my list of favorites.. I lean more towards the character exploration/development episodes.. Not to say some of the 'action' episodes weren't great.
I love Hank in that clip. 'You're the smartest guy I know, but you are too stupid to see he made up his mind ten minutes ago'. And he went out with his pride intact.
