What is up with the Jan 10 show? I never expected that to happen.

The actress playing Alara, Halston Sage, is/was dating Seth McFarlane IRL. Supposedly Fox has an iron-clad policy that if someone is romantically involved with an executive on the show (Seth is not only Capt Mercer, he's the showrunner), they can't appear on the show. To avoid any appearance of impropriety.
Having said that, it seems they were dating, but are no longer. So who knows?
The first three episodes have been uneven - two Bortus stories and the tangled s'long-Alara one. I can only hope that the actor's exit caused some havoc with show production and we're due a better 10-11 eps now. They are already doing too much hand-waving and make-believe for my taste.
What a dumb reason to throw away the opportunity to be a regular on a show people are talking about.

There's another rumor that she left bc of scheduling conflicts. I'd rather believe that.
The relationship was before the show. Dating the old dude may have gotten her the gig and the corporation was concerned about the possible flashback
