I was also a little disappointed in the ending. Mainly because I still have many questions and areas of confusion (which could be my fault and could be items I missed). I also found parts of the plot hard to accept (believe). But all and all the acting outshined any issues I still have and I enjoyed the season.
Was very underwhelmed by the ending. it could have been much better.
I finally saw the last episode. I agree with you about that. I liked S3 about the same as I did S1. Lots of similarities in some ways. That being said, S2 is the one I would never bother to watch again.
I'd rather not post much about any spoilers right now in case some others have not made it through all of S3 episodes.

I have to admit I did tear up some when Roland embraced the abandoned dog. That really got me in the last episode.
and more of a spoiler below
I found the old half-blind guy's admission to the elderly detectives part of the letdown. I figured he was older and would have been dead since it was so many years after the murder in 1980. Something about that just was off IMHO.
I, too, was underwhelmed. But then I realized that what I thought all along was a murder mystery was really a love story (non-romantic) between two old friends who had lost each other. In that respect--the partners reuniting--it resembled S1, but S1 had so much more substance and suspense, and the timelines were much better defined. I think I'll give S3 6 months, and then binge watch it, just to give it a second chance.
I loved the ending. It was beautiful. I was concerned that this was going to be a rehash of the "secret pedophile cult" boogeyman. But it was something else entirely.
I am assuming the wife (Amelia) died at some point? Either I missed it or they never said. I guess I'd have like to have known how their relationship progressed and what happened to her.

Obviously (at least to me) she had died sometime between 1990 and 2015. That was one of my many unanswered questions from the series.....When did she died and how??
I've like this show and have watched all three seasons. I agree with others that the ending was underwhelming and not what I expected.
This show seemed to take a lot of intellectual energy to keep track of which timeline they were on, it was almost exhausting, first thinking it was really happening and then thinking, no, this is just a vision from his dementia. And then many of the scenes with Amelia drug on and on and she could be so negative.
That said, I do really like this show and think it's one of the better made shows out there. If they do a season 4, I'll be watching.
