Basically just producing some new episodes. I think this will be a win for Netflix.. Lots of people still love the old Unsolved Mysteries show, and bringing on new cases should be great all around. I suspect that it'll be very heavily watched and production costs shouldn't be very high for it.
They're only going to be profiling one case per show, so I assume it'll only be about 30 minutes vs the 60 minute 3-4 cases per episode that it was during the original run.
All hosts for it have died, other than Virginia Madsen who was co-host for a year back in 1999. Raymond Burr in 1993, Karl Malden in 2009, Robert Stack in 2003 and Dennis Farina in 2013.
There were several of those shows that caught my attention. They did a good job regarding the Roswell incident in 1947. My favorite one was the situation of Bobby Fuller. Fuller and his trio hit the top 5 with his hit from March of 1966 called "I Fought The Law." Fuller was found in his vehicle in Los Angeles dead-this was July of 1966. It was called a suicide but family members believe he was killed with one theory going that he dated a lady who had recently broke up with a Los Angeles police officer. Cause of death was ingesting gasoline.
There's a wiki for Unsolved Mysteries cases that keeps track of all the cases they profiled. It can kill an hour or twelve reading through it and remembering some of the cases, and seeing the updates on them.
The one episode and case that haunts me to this day is the Las Cruces bowling alley massacre, which is a cold case and still unsolved.
Ah.. There's several of them.. The cases that you think would have been solved. Like the Circleville Writer, who wrote taunting letters to the producers of UM. Or Katherine Korzilius.. Which, personally, I think she hopped on the back of the mother's car and fell off.
Walter Rice is a local case to me that.. Guy dies, isn't found for a year in his house.. Has $125k or so, they can't find family.. The money there wound up going to the state.
AJ Breaux.. Dub and Chase Wackerhagen.. The Mary Morris killings.. Two women named Mary Morris killed execution style within days of each other in Houston, I believe it was.
Chaim Weiss.. Killed in his Jewish school bedroom
Some of the cases you think would never be solved, just not enough info.. Like one of the "Lost Loves" segments on a WWII soldier who gave food to a family. I mean, they met him for 10 minutes. Didn't know his name.. Nothing. Just that his unit was on a specific road on or about a specific day 40 years prior.. I'll be damned if they didn't find him.
Then, others.. Like the guy who stole a buttload of platinum.. No trace of him was ever found. Gloria Schulze.. Woman kills a high school student via DUI.. Disappears entirely.
