I had mixed feelings about this season. I loved the opening few episodes. It felt very fresh, and the scenery in Michigan (rather than NYC) just gave it a really refreshing feel. The action was great as well. Also, the way they started out with a mystery plot that they slowly unpeeled, kept me really intrigued.
IMO when the story shifted back to New York is when things started going downhill. The typical problems of having too many subplots and two villains (Jigsaw and the new character). Jigsaw was also a really weak villain IMO.
I love Bernthal's portrayal of the Punisher. He is by far my favorite. The one slight complaint I have about him, is that physically he is very slim and on the shorter side. Reading the comics, the Punisher had a huge bodybuilder-build and was at least 6'4. Bernthal is much smaller and much thinner build, but he is so good that it doesn't matter much.
Overall, I loved the beginning of this season, and then it was just ok for me to the end. Like many of the Marvel Netflix, to me there was a lot of disconnected and unnecessary filler story. Realistically, it could have been 8-10 episodes rather than 13. It will likely be the last Punisher season, since Netflix seems to be wrapping up all of the Marvel series.
I haven’t finished the season yet (on episode 10), but have to agree the Jigsaw/Russo character is not that intriguing this time around. I liked the religious villain (and the surprise of his backstory) a lot better and the focus should have been on him and his pursuit of Punisher and the girl.
I love Berenthal as The Punisher, though I'm not a comic book reader, so I can't comment on how well he matches that description.
I didn't understand why Pilgrim was so loyal to the senator's parents that he would leave his dying wife to do all this for them.

Did you watch to the end? He feels obligated because
Spoiler
they helped turn his life around from being a white supremacist gangster, then later because they held his sons hostage.

I did, but it didn't make sense.
Spoiler
He should have just said, I'm really sorry I can't help you right now, as you know, my wife is near-death. I'll gladly help you the next time you have many people who must be killed.
And when they had his kids, he could have easily undone that situation, just as Frank did.
I just watched season 1 episode 1 and half of 2.
I sort of understand its based on some comic book.
Is what I've seen so far what I should expect going forward? I enjoyed the 1.5 episodes so far.

Seasons 1 and 2 are very different from one another. Season 1 is more of an origin story of how The Punisher came to be. Season 2 is The Punisher being The Punisher.
Both seasons are good, but different. If you've liked what you've seen so far in season 1, you will likely enjoy the rest of it. I think I liked season 1 slightly more than season 2.
I love this show. Not sure if there will be a season 3. This is the only show I would be pissed if it got cancel when it comes to Netflix original.
