Binged all seasons in just about 2 weeks and finished last Friday. Loved this show, even if as a Reform Jew, I'm certainly not in step with the Orthodox community.
It's one of the best family dramas I've seen in years. The religious aspects of the show is simultaneously integral to the plot line but also incidental. It's really about the relationships. And I love how it touches on so many contemporary issues prevalent in all communities- parents and their adult children, loneliness, marital strife, infertility etc.
I agree. It is a very human drama with all the same unpredictability as in real life. The way the 3 siblings transact their marriages and relationships are multidimensional. And foods! They are eating all the time!
Ha! Well I searched out this thread because I finally have netflix. I am so not a movie or series watcher but decided to start with Shtisel. I have only watched 3 episodes so far but I am hooked.
I agree about the subtitles. At first I found it really hard but quickly adusted, only to find that yes, at times they are on so fast and or on a light background so it's hard to even see. I should go back but I just keep watching- don't want to lose momentum. I'm so impressed with it and I don't know what it is that has hooked me. I think the characters are so well portrayed along with the humor.
Finally now I see what everyone was talking about.
As usual, a little late to the game.
