As much as I loved the show, I don't remember much. (I was busy having a fantasy relationship with Paul, I guess. )
According to the article that I linked:
And according to IMDb:
I'm just hoping that it'll be more of the same banter and "life" but with them older. (And that bodes well for my "relationship" with Paul because I, too, am older now. )
My first dog was named after the dog in this show. I miss that pup. This might be one of the better reboots. The lack of creativity for tv is depressing. It was a cute show.
I watched the reboot premier episode. Thought it was rather dull, I wasn't a huge fan but I saw the original often back in the 90s and didn't remember it being so dry. Having Spectrum cable, I started watching the pilot. The writing was much snappier, characters had much more life, though they were often annoying but also charming. Its an interesting update, but not at the same level as the original.
What is the explanation for the original series finale where Paul and Jamie are divorced? Is this a Chuck Cunningham kind of thing that the viewer is just supposed to ignore?

That's pretty much what the producers have said - they are ignoring the finale, especially since it took place in 2021. They also said it's comedy - don't take it so seriously.
