My apologies if this topic has been previously discussed, but I did not see it during a quick review of threads.

Who else lives vicariously through the Travel channel? I have become smitten with Anthony Bourdain! While Samantha Brown makes me want to go to all the places she visits, Tony makes me want to go with him! He's like, her mad, worldly uncle, or some such. He is an absolute hoot. If you haven't yet seen the show, 'Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations', you've got to watch.

Tony, if you read this, just know that I am sharing that pint of Guinness with you on the Emerald Isle - in my dreams.

Yes, sirron, I completely agree with you about "living vicariously through the Travel Channel"! I absolutely love it, am addicted to it and to the Discovery Channel's travelogues -- boom de yada boom de yada!! I no longer yearn to spend thousands of dollars going to every place in the world, because I've already been there, in a sense, through these great shows, and have had a lot of my curiosity satisfied.

Can't stand Samantha Brown's overacting mannerisms and affectations, especially with the letter L, her practiced cutsie stage persona, and the overriding superficiality of many of the things she focuses on as "enjoyment". But the places she visits sometimes have great sights. I mute the sound when I can't stand listening to her any longer, and just enjoy the scenery, looking away from where she's standing.

Isn't Bourdain a character?! Snark abounds, snark disappears... Literate, articulate, vulgar and impatient. I wouldn't spend more than a couple of minutes talking to him at a party -- don't need in my energy field all that anger, cynicism and pessimism. But I can tune that out for the sake of the foods. And I learn a lot about food from him and from the minds of the chefs he visits who have been thinking about and playing with food for decades.

I've got to agree with Bourdain that all pork products are ambrosia!! And that the point about food is not where did it come from or how was it developed, but does it taste good?

I just finished watching his visit to Ghana, and, what's got to be one of his best lines ever, was " Sometimes, I don't wanna know what's for lunch". Maybe it's just the way he said it, but I howled. Yeah, he's a bit on the cynical side, but I think he'd be a fun travel partner, among other things.

*did i say that out loud?*
