I totally agree! I know people that have a 4,500 sq foot home that feels sooo confining because every room is separate. I love an open feeling and it IS much better for entertaining - which we do a lot. Doesn't everyone?
Did anyone see the episode a few nites ago, with the couple? Every room the woman walked into she said "wow", by the end of the show i wanted to scream.
Who likes that show? I can't get enough of it, but it annoys me. Does everyone on the planet have to have an "updated" kitchen with the latest appliances, also "crown molding", and "i can cook here and watch everyone in the living room". To funny.
I thought it was the man who said 'wow'...maybe that was another episode. I remember another one where the lady feigned the English "a proper this and a proper that"...
Well, I guess anything is better than 'amazing' or 'awesome' -- 'beautiful' gets old too!
I love it too, but some of the buyers you just can please them. Like last night they were moving from an apartment and every house they looked at she had something negative to say. I too like House Hunters International, my hubby and I talk about where we will go when we retire and have thought about moving out of the states.
I agree that paint shouldn't be a deciding factor in buying a house, but I don't really understand other posters who call people "greedy" for expecting a lot out of their home and being critical.
It's the most expensive thing you will ever buy. I can't imagine just going into it being nice and understanding. It's both an emotional and intellectual decision that must be made and walking that fine line doesn't always bring out the best in people.
Sure, some of the people annoy me, but that's because some people in this world are just annoying. I guess I don't understand what that says about Americans???

There was a time when family and friends were much more important than material things. I am originally from Derry, in the North of Ireland, and when I lived there, was in a small flat with parents and many siblings, or later, with mates. Where we lived was a place to come together, eat, drink, talk, read - not to go to our 'manroom' or separate playroom or media room or office (yea, every adult seems to need one, whether they work or no) or outside kitchen or scrapbook room.
What I think it says about many Americans on this programme is that they are spoilt, greedy and materialistic.

Last night was a repeat of the couple who wanted an estate in Hawaii--around $5 million. Ironically the husband really wanted a large garage and this was not possible in his price range--ocean views, swimming pools and everything else but not a spacious garage. They 'found something' and remodeled extensively but strangely it didn't mention creating a larger garage.
House Hunters is 'better' than the alternatives on other stations but I'm tired of those kinds of shows, too.
