How Do I Look?-crazy episode...
Did anyone see this episode last night on the Style Network? I rarely watch this show (makeover shows are a dime a dozen) but I was too tired to change the channel and got into this episode.
This show is slightly different than other makeover shows in that family members and friends nominate someone and then take an active part in making them over (along w/ a stylist). The fashion victim tries collections on by friends, family, and a stylist before choosing one etc.
Anyway, last night this goth-chick named Plum was on there and she seemed okay w/ the makeover at first but by the end of the show she had disowned her friends, given all their outfit choices to goodwill, and completely put down the show and everything it stands for. It was refreshing...even if she did still look like crap.

I've seen several shows recently on which the makeover victim (subject? guinea pig?) was MOST unhappy with the results and with the people who got her into the situation, and made her discontent very clear. It's sort of mortifying for everyone involved, I think.

I don't watch this show very often either, but I did catch this one.
Holy hairspray! I must say that Finola Hughes handled the situation much better that I would have (bang, zoom, to the moon Alice!).
The haircut she was given was really cute, but I don't think her friends knew quite how to respond to her.
I do hope she was able to patch up her friendships.

I saw this thread yesterday and happened to be flipping through channels today and bam, there she was in all her Plummy goodness. I just had to watch. I agree, Fiona was marvelous and gracious and handled the situation as well as anyone could hope for, given Plum's attitude.
I understand she wants to maintain her individuality. I understand she's not into fashion (and I'm with her 100% on that one). I understand she doesn't cotton to the idea that society has dictated what she must look like and what she must wear in order to be considered acceptable. I understand that she doesn't want to base her value on what's on her back. I get all that.
But why did she have to be so rude and unappreciative? She could have gotten her point across and still been gracious. She could have acknowledged the work her friends went to (kudos to the young man who spoke up regarding Plum's attitude). She could have even taken the opportunity to get on a soapbox and teach her friends and Fiona that clothing is superficial and not really important in the big scheme of things.
The issue is, this wasn't about fashion or makeovers. Plum seems to be a very unhappy young woman. She also appeared to be a very insecure and scared woman. She seemed to be almost phobic about making changes, even temporary ones. It was as if she feared that making any changes would cause Plum to cease to exist. She looked like she was having an anxiety attack .
I hope things are better for her now and that she can somehow make amends with her friends.

Saw it because of this thread. I didn't get Plum was scared and insecure. I thought she was happy with who she was and how she dressed and thought it was nuts people were trying to make her 'mainstream'. I think if she were approached differently she would have taken the entire make-over better.
She felt attacked by her good friends, and rebelled. I am surprised her friends even nominated her for a show like this; they obviously didn't know her very well. (I know they have been friends for 20 years)

I saw it.
That ***** Be Crazy! Plum looked ridiculous not because of what she was wearing but because of how she behaved. But some of her clothes did look uncomfortable. I feel her on the heels but a lot of the outfits were flattering on her.
However, her friend that was telling her doesn't she want a better life etc. I found to be extremely judgemental. That's what set plum off. That girl was sooooo wrong for that and I'd have to say she probably wouldn't be my friend after that either.

PLUM on How do Look
I watched this for the second time today and I have to say - even tho Plum was a total ***** thru this whole thing:
The clothes were AWFUL - they were the worst collections I have ever seen on the show. Why? Because instead of doing what they normally do, they were trying to cater to Plums bad style - and I think she knew it. She also only asked one thing - NO HEELS - and they didn't even try to accomidate that. If I was on the show and said no heels I would expect them to honor that - I have broken my ankle and smashed my knee and cannot wear them. I feel that was an attack on her only request.
Still Plum was and is very inmature and she can kiss that college education goodby - no one will hire her.
I hope she looks forward to being a barmaid all her life..........
