Default Generation Kill

Episode one of Generation Kill was aired on HBO on Sunday. I have to say I am hooked already. I was expecting great things from the writers of The Wire, and so far they haven't disappointed.

For any Wire fans out there, Ziggy from The Wire season 2 is one of the main actors, and he has a great character. Also, the guy that plays Tobias Beecher from Oz (another great HBO original series) plays an embedded reporter.

In summary, if you like good writing and want a realistic portrayal of the initial stages of the Iraq invasion, this looks to be a can't miss mini-series.

I'm trying really hard to get through the first episode. I'm a little put off by them saying a 7 year old girl, who sent them a letter via her classroom, was "hot" ... yuck. Do Marines really act this way? Sorry, but they're a bunch of pigs if they do. Ok, I'll keep trying, but after that whole pedophilisitc scene, I turned it off again.

I read the book, and looked forward to the series.
Son, hubby and I watched the first episode and will be watching them all.

(Yes, there are crass words, scenes and actions...yes it is realistic.
It's not for those who are easily offended, and nearly everything most of the fellows there do and say is offensive.
They are blowing off steam, acting obnoxious, etc. it's a de-stressor. They are often crude & rude, and immature,
but they put each other in their place when necessary...
Most importantly, though, they were highly trained warriors sent to fight for their country in a lousy circumstance,
and they rise to the occasion when they need to and regardless of their personal issues, prejudices and idosyncrocies, they do bond and work together to get the job done.)

You also have to keep in mind that many of these kids are not even old enough to drink, and have used the marine corps to escape sh***y circumstances back home. So in other words, the maturity level is not quite there.

Absolutely agree, toughguy.
I think they do a good job of allowing each of their personalities show through.
I appreciate that it also doesn't sugarcoat the issues they have to deal with either.
From equipment, personnel, and manpower, to command issues.
Very good series.
