Hey laaaaaaadies!
The women are so much better than the men. Just toing off this past night, I have to agree with the judges that I'd rather see the division more 8/4 in favor of women as opposed to 6/6.
I didn't think any of the women were awful, just some not quite as good as others. Even Antonella who was brutally beaten up by the judges I didn't find to be THAT bad and to be roughly middle-of-the-pack if she were singing with the guys.
Melinda Doolittle rules all! She is my favorite and I thought was the best tonight. Lakisha (last singer), Stephanie (first singer), Jordin (sugary sweet 17 year old) and Sabrina (the second Aretha song) were all absolutely fantastic as well. Nicole, the girl who sang "Rufus" was really awkward but I sort of liked it. Even though the whole performance was very manic, she seems to vocally have the chops and I like the fact that she's daring and I sort of want to see what she has up her sleeve. I didn't think Gina Glocksen was as good as she thought she was, but good nonetheless. Leslie (dogwalker) did seem very awkward and self-conscious while performing but I found her strangely likeable. I would guess that Antonella and Alaina (the girl who sang the Pretenders) will be booted, even though I wish all of the women could stay around another week.
I might even cast some votes tonight and I never vote for these sort of things.
Go Melinda!

LAKISHA ROCKS! big voice, big big voice! take that jennifer hudson! she's not as cute as jennifer, but much bigger voice and with room to grow and grow. this is her competition to lose. hope she can keep it up and not bow to the pressure or the stress.
several women are simply, as simon says, just far and away in a different category from the rest. i truly enjoyed listening to them. and jordin - such a big confident voice from a 17 year old! the world is hers. geez.
i still don't have all the names down yet - but i still like chris sligh from last night even though i think he oversang his song and sang it too far up into the front of his throat. i think he was nervous and trying to hard. i'm still keen on him having his own sit-com.
i also like the guy who closed the show, but i've certainly heard that song done better by sara evans (not really a fan of the guy who originally sang it however.)
i think this year the bar has been raised - again. big singers, big voices, big hearts.
GO LAKISHA!!!!!

If some dude won it last year, i'll say some dudette will win it this year, and if it was the other way around last year, then I think it will be the other way around for this year.

Wow, if I didn't read your posts first, all the contestants names
would be a blur !!! But I think I'm pretty much in agreement with ya'll !
I agree with Simon probably 80-90% of the time. Of course it makes for a fun show, like tonight when he made a comment about Ryan Secrest wanting to date that one girl (face I remember, name I don't LOL) .
Anyways, when he said all the other contestants should buy their plane ticket home now, that's exactly what I was thinking too . After Lakisha sang, it was like she blew the rest of the contestants away for me!
My top 3 picks are: Lakisha, Melinda and Blake
I hope all 3 make it to the finals

I agree with other posters, the women totally blew the men away... only one guy really got my attention, but there were lots of good ladies to choose from! Okay, here are my picks for the week:
Stephanie Edwards, Sabrina Sloan, Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones (wow!), and Blake Lewis. If I had to pick a top three right now, I'd say LaKisha, Blake & Melinda! Sounds like we're all thinking alike, so we'll have to see if anyone surprises us next week. They'd better step it up, or this will be a boring competition...

If it's not a popularity show like we know it shouldn't be but we know sometimes it is, I don't think any of the guys deserve to be in the top 5. That's how good I think these 5 girls are now, and of course everybody improves over the next couple of weeks so for these girls to improve...not one guy can hold a torch. Favorite-Lakisha. I liked some other girls, but the moment she sang, she blew everyone away and they all paled to her. The next best voice in my opinion was kinda tie: I liked Sabrina (29 year old with curly hair) and Melinda (back up singer). Then the first singer Stephanie was good and Jordan (young 17 year old with curly hair) is good and she will grow.
Antonella I know only got on that show to throw in some pretty girls. I do think she should be the first to go along with possibly Alaina. Maybe even Leslie or Haley. They paled so much.

There is a site that helps the best of the worst to keep in the running! Have no fear for some of the talentless singers on the show. Check out the site.

LOL, and again, I am in agreement too. I really liked Sabrina and Melinda, and LaKisha, WOW, no way that girl's going home! Jordin has a LOT of talent and poise for such a young girl, though, too and I hope she does well.
I did miss Stephanie's performance, but she seemed to have done a very good job even from the clip they showed at the end.
Personally I have forgotten all about the guys - even the better ones were like the worst of the women! Antonella, though... I was in the other room when I heard her starting and I went... "whoa, that sounds B-A-D". buh-bye, Antonella. And that other rather bland girl who sang second or third.
I totally agreed with Simon when he talked about the big egos and small talent, contrasting with Melinda who has no ego and huge talent. I wish people would stop being so self-righteous every time he has a criticism.

Lakisha should be the winner hands down. Of course, American jackals do the voting, so who knows who will win.

You know, I just realized considering the wide geographic diversity of this board, that it's possible when I post in here on elimination nights, it could be a spoiler for viewers in other parts of the country (I'm on the East Coast) so proceed with caution if you don't want to know who goes home yet.

That site has a surprising amount of pull. Every year it singles out a contestant in an attempt to sabotage the competition and they usually wind up making it fairly far too.
There's another interesting site at http://www.dialidol.com which tracks the busy signals on the contestants' numbers after performances and through that guesses which contestant will be going home. They are right at least half the time (and claim an 87% record last season). Click on "predictions" to see their predictions for this past week, which were half right. And as you can see, votefortheworst's "endorsement" of Sundance and Antonella can have quite the impact.
So, the results show. I wasn't really surpised about Amy going home because she was forgettable. Paul Kim was disappointing just because in the auditions phase I really liked his voice, and while I didn't think he was the worst (or second worst) the other night, his performance wasn't good enough for me to really be upset at his being sent hom. I wasn't surprised about these two. I was a little surprised by Nicole and Rudy. Nicole has a really good voice so I was hoping she would get another shot to show it off with a better song. She at least handled the elimination gracefully. I was really surprised Alaina Alexander didn't go home. I actually think the judges' harsher-than-average criticism may have drum up sympathy. As for Rudy, if just listening to him, he actually sounded decent I thought. The song wasn't the best choice because it was sort of corny, but it was more the performance aspect, the jerky dancing and facial contortions that put me off, but vocally, he was I would say in the middle of the guys and during his performance tonight, he actually sounded quite good. I also realized who it was that he looks like. Pee Wee Herman. I knew he looked like someone familiar and I just couldn't put my finger on who.
