Aj

I hope he knows he did not deserve to go home!
It was not his time. I hope he finds some comfort in that.

Same with Leslie. Loved her ending to her song. Wish the commercial would not of cut her off! ( should of not sang jazz!) or something like that.

Next week we will have to try to predict who "should" go home not who "will " go home.

Poor AJ. While not the best of the guys and not really on track to win the competition, he was definitely one of the better ones. I feel like one of his disadvantages was the fact that he was not profiled early on in the season. Some of these contestants like Sundance, Sanjaya, Lakisha and Phil, have been followed on-camera since the auditions phase, with the home audience being able to learn about their personalities, backgrounds, sob stories, and see them sing time and time again. In short, it's enabled them to come into the Top 24 with a built-in fanbase. Those who were not heavily featured like AJ, face an uphill battle in just trying to get others to remember who they are. It's one of the more unfair aspects of the show.

I was surprised about AJ. I didn't expect him to make it to the Top 12 (although I felt he should), but I figured it'd be his time next week. I thought Brandon would've been a goner. While Brandon's been a disappointment the past two weeks, I'm really hoping he learned his lesson and picks it up for next week. Either way, I feel like the final six guys have sort of already been picked, not by producers, but by fans who will vote for their favorites regardless of their performance next week, and I feel like Jared and Brandon will be going home.

As for the ladies, I liked Leslie just because she was a little weird. Her and Nicole (the first girl eliminated who sang the Rufus song) I felt had a bit of potential to keep things interesting, even if not the best singers. I'm surprised Haley stuck around another week. She will go next week, and I also think either Sabrina or Stephanie will go home as well. Even though they're two of the strongest singers, they're not the two biggest frontrunners at the moment (that's Melinda and Lakisha), I just don't see all of the big-voiced divas making it through.

Here's the website:

http://www.votefortheworst.com

As you can see, they've put their support behind Antonella, Sundance and Sanjaya. This website has been around for a few seasons and has been quite successful at keeping in poorer performing contestants in the past, like Scott Savol. The idea behind the site is that the creators, and fans of it, hate American Idol so much that they want to destroy it's legitimacy by pushing forth, hopefully all the way to the winner, awful contestants so that the show becomes a laughing stock. I find it bizarre that people would devote that much time, calling in for hours to vote for the worst contestant, for a show that they despise, but whatever....

Also completely shocked that AJ went home, I think he was easily in the top 3-4 of the guys. I was surprised at Nick too, I thought his voice was pretty good. Leslie was less of a shock but I was disappointed, I really liked her. I think it should have been Brendon and Antonella instead. Antonella is only there IMO because there are a bunch of pervs that like the dirty pictures of her posted on the internet, so they vote for her. She can not sing anywhere near the level of the rest of the girls! Haley is not much better. I love Sanjaya, I think he just picked a really bad song, and I was surprised he didn't get booted off. I was hoping Antonella, Haley, Brendon, and Phil would get the boot, although Sanjaya deserved it more than Phil this week.

That's three times in a row where Sanjaya was clearly the worst of the night. He seems like a sweet kid, but does he remind anyone else of Michael Jackson a bit? Just in terms of the voice, the hair, and the general demeanor? I hope for his sake that he leaves just because he seems like a sensitive kid who is well-aware of just where he stacks up in the competition and almost wants to be put out of his misery. I will say he wasn't AS bad tonight as nights past though.

Blake is the only guy I'm really curious to see every week. It seems like every year they expand the genres a bit, incorporating country and some Southern rock in a few years ago with Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice, then some harder rock (at times) with Chris Daughtry last year, and now you have this sort of beatboxing ska-flavor with a reggae twist that Blake is rocking, and it does set him apart. Aside from him, the two Chrises (I'm slooowly getting more into buzz-cut Chris) are the only other ones I think really deserve to be in the Top 12. AJ did too, but he's out.

Phil's performance WAS weird. I was with Simon on that one. The first camera shot and the first note, I thought to myself "Whoa?! Why does he look and sound so weird tonight?"

I'm not sure who will be going home. I'm wondering if the swooning girl fanbase can push Sanjaya through again. I think it will be two of these three going home: Brandon, Jared, or Sanjaya.

We were busting up laughing at Phil's performance(..look). Felt bad that Simon said what we were thinking but we agreed with him. and a man trying to sing a LeAnn Rhimes song?? We were laughing and not paying attention to his singing but it could not of been good.
I hated Sundance's Pearl Jam song. Wrong voice, tone, just wrong.
I agree with the judges on that only 4 deserve to stay. Blake, Chris, Chris, & Brandon(although he has sucked, but has a good voice). I did like Jared until tonight. Gay song and please do something with those eyebrows!
I am voting for Blake to win!

I thought the best one was Chris Sligh. The other Chris was ok, but I do think his voice can tend to be a little nasely at times. I love Blake, BUT, I did not care for him tonight. I know that 311 song, and I didn't really like it when they sang it, and I didn't like it when he sang it. It does nothing to show his vocal.

And sunspot...sundance...sunhead, while i think he does have potential, I totally think he picked the wrong song. I love pearl jam, and his voice is not deep enough for any of their songs.

I still think the guys don't have a chance when it comes to the girls. This is a girl's competition.

Who should go home tonight: Sunjaja (whatever) and Phil...or Jared.

Who will go home tonight: Phil, Jared or Brandon.

I kept thinking that Phil looked like Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (well, I should say as portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie)... that hat, wow, the way he acted, everything was just too weird.

I was cringing when Sanjaya was singing, and the only two that I thought were "good" and not great were Blake and Chris S. I don't even really care who goes home except for these two... and I really think Sanjaya should have been gone two weeks ago... But, as mrshvo said above, Sanjaya probably will end up staying...

Default Is it me or would it be a better show this year if AI

just got rid of 4 guys this week and left all the girls in the final 12???

I was 'bored' out of my mind with last night's show ! I missed Blake singing, but when they showed a brief clip of him at the end, I realized that I hadn't really missed a thing . And as far as Sanjay, do you think AI put him through initially as a token East Indian? I don't recall any East Indians making it through in past seasons?? And I'm afraid that site "Votefortheworst" might be to blame for him staying in the game and possibly moving into the final 12 !!!

Anyhow, I'm hoping the girls bat it out of the park tonight, or I may have to reconsider watching anymore AI this season !!!

Melinda is amazing. Since day one during her first audition, she's been the one that has stuck out with me the most. My only worry with her is that she's almost TOO good. When you start at the top, there's nowhere to go but down, and it's really hard to keep up the momentum throughout the entire competition. At this point, it seems like the general consensus is that this is gonna be a Melinda vs. Lakisha season. Granted, the final two are rarely the two perceived frontrunners from this stage, but I think that is the general tone the show is going to take and rightfully so since they're the best singers.

The girls were all decent at least, and I agree with Randy that it's like watching a whole different show when it's the ladies' night. Antonella sounded the best I've heard but that's not really saying much as she's still out of her league and the worst of all the female singers. I feel bad for Haley. While I feel her manner of singing is best suited for the world of Broadway, she really has been just given so little positive feedback, but it's not due to her lack of talent as it is her standing within the pack of powerhouse females this season.

While I feel Haley and Antonella should go home. I think only one of them will (probably Haley) and then the other one will be a "surprise", probably either Sabrina or Stephanie. Even though they're both talented and two of the better singers, I just don't see both going through. I'd have put money on Gina going home this week but she actually did really well tonight, and I too am looking forward to seeing her in the Top 12 just to mix it up a bit. I have to admit though, I get a bit annoyed at the judges' attempts to pidgeonhole singers due to their looks. Why should Gina have to be a rocker just because she has streaked hair and tattoos? They do that all the time with various contestants.

Is it just me or is the banter between the judges and Ryan getting increasingly more awkward and cringeworthy?

Oh, as for Sanjaya, I don't think he was pushed forward as a form of ethnic tokenism. From what I remember in the auditions, he actually does have a very nice voice, and vocal skills in and of themselves are just one part of the package and I think producers/judges look for diversity in styles, age and voices but I don't think ethnicity really enters the mix (although I doubt they'd ever have an all-white or all-non-white top 24, but that's also just statistically incredibly improbable as well), and I think Sanjaya as the youngest performer, a cute, sweet, shy, non-threatening teenage boy, fills a certain niche and caters to a swooning young girl demographic that they want. These are most likely the same people keeping him in the competition. At the moment, Vote For The Worst has actually thrown their "support" behind Sundance and Antonella so Sanjaya's remaining in the competition is actually the result of actual fans.
