Tonight was decent if only waaaay too long. Two hours? Come on now! I was surprised by how sweet and supportive Diana Ross seemed. I've heard many stories about her diva attitude but she seemed extremely down to Earth. Of course, there was also a camera on her.
Melinda knocked it out of the park again. I thought Lakisha was great too although not quite AS good as the judges made her out to be. The big surprise was Jordin slowing it down a bit from her normal peppiness and really doing a terrific job. I don't know if I'd say she's giving Melinda and Lakisha a run for their money, but she's definitely placed herself in the top half of the contestants up there.
Sanjaya was the worst. I feel like a broken record. I just wish he'd let go more. He seems too shy and timid as the judges said. It seems like if he just put more force behind his voice, he'd sound much better. That also brings me to Brandon. I think Brandon has been a colossal disappointment. I've been holding out hope for him and supporting him thinking "maybe next week, maybe next week, just give him one more week and he'll REALLY step it up..." only to be proven wrong time and time again. Like Sanjaya, he just seems to really hold back. He has that powerful voice but rarely fully utilizes it. He just keeps blowing it and I think that he's done himself in with it this time. Sanjaya should go home but I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. I think Brandon will go home due to his relatively poor performance, eviscerating critiques from the judges, and because he was the first of the night to go (i.e. the easiest person to forget).
I actually liked Blake. I thought Stephanie, Phil and Gina were decent. Chris Sligh is trying a bit too hard to be different but I still thought he was okay. Haley comes across as very insecure but for her sake, I'm glad she got a positive remark from Simon and think she deserves another week. Chris Richardson (mini-Timberlake) really got on my nerves this week and I'm not sure why. It was something with the facial expressions, the lip movements and sort of jerky dancing combined with his nasally voice (which I've never really liked) that had me stabbing my ears. He's a good performer but it just seems like he has to pick a certain type of song in order for his voice to mesh well with it and this wasn't it, in my opinion.
If I had to guess, I'd say the bottom three will be Brandon, Haley and Stephanie with Brandon going home.
Oh, and as an FYI, now that Antonella and Sundance are gone, Vote For The Worst has thrown all of it's "support" behind Sanjaya.

I thought the show was...okay last night. besides Melinda and Lakisha...noone at all blew me out of hte water. I don't like Chris Sligh without his glassess...I hope they don't make him doa makeover...I thought he was great the way he was-ineresting and different.
I know people are going to disagree with me...but I don't really see any big deal about the other Chris. Sure he's cute looking. But I think he is defintely trying to be who the judges compared him with. He is trying too hard to be a Justin Timberlake, but he doesn't have Justin's voice. I do think it is nasaly. I do think that it is NOT much of a voice.
I honestly can't remember much of the performances. Except for Sanjaya's. That song he sang from Diana is one of my favorite songs. Love it. But he butchered it! you need to come out with this powerful voice and knock that song out and he whispered it, like he always whispers his songs. I think that he knows his voice is awful, or at least can't even compare to all of the other singers, and so you figure least is better.
All in all I was disappointed with this week. Then again, I was disappointed with this whole top 12. I have watched this show ever since the very first year...and this in my opinion is the weakest and worst top 12 they have had.

I'm in agreement with 'mrshvo'
and have decided it's not even worth watching tonight's show. I love Diana Ross, but the songs that were picked last night were the worst of her music and were sung quite poorly IMHO . To have to relisten to last night's songs (even if it's a 15 second cut) and the comments is too painful for me .
Please wake when when it's over....

I am so bored with AI this season - I was so excited at first, in fact I started this original thread, LOL
However, it has been so predictable. Obviously Melinda and Jordan will battle it out. I couldn't even be bothered to watch this week - I knew the results beforehand... and I was correct!! Oh well.

I too am bored with it this year. I have to wonder how Melinda even is eligible for AI since she is a professional singer already. I thought this show was based on amateur talent only.
The beat box guy forces me to change the channel while he performs. One or two songs throughout the season would have been entertaining, but every song is too much. Too much to the point of being annoying.
In my opinion, Melinda does not have much "melody" to her voice, it sounds more like controlled screaching to me. I guess what I mean is nothing really stands out with her singing, I would never be able to hear her on the radio and say "Oh that Melinda has a lovely voice". For example, if you hear a new song you can identify who is singing it without being told. Melinda does not have that quality to her singing. She sounds just like hundreds of other back up singers who can carry a tune.
Jordin is my pick for this season. She has a "melody" and a nice range to her vocals. I would be able to identify a song by her without being told it was her.
Let us hope next season is better. Perhaps they should change their tryout criteria, or maybe have smaller tryouts in more places. If next season is anything like this one, I doubt people will keep watching.

Okay now you're making me give my prediction
JORDAN WINS AI
Melinda is very good, but she doesn't need AI to have a career in music. Just having been on AI should open lots more doors for her .
Blake was so great last week during Bon Jovi week !!! I think if he put that song out on DVD, it would sell millions the very first day released. He seems like the type who would do better on his own, rather than being an AI puppet . His career should do just fine without winning AI 2007.
Now Jordan on the other hand needs AI more than they need her (JMHO )! She sings very well, is an attractive young woman and the AI contract will probably help her career the most of the last 3 singers. For that reason alone, I think she should win AI 2007 .
p.s.
Don't hate me when I'm right (LOL)!

I think Jordin has improved out of all. Melinda hasn't improved-she's already good, but has she plateud? (check that spelling!!)
I think Blake will go further, too, without AI. Look-Chris Daughtry didn't get the AI title, but he is doing great. Blake will put out a record.
I too loved him on Bon Jovi, and yes, he did s u c k this week, but I don't think anyone shined-I think it was a bad week (and songs).
