Default Coverting From Analog To Digital Tv (dtv)

Last week i purchased 2 dtv coverter boxes (RCA DTA800B1) at walmart. With the 2 govt coupons ($40.00 ea) it cost me out of pocket $21.30 for 2 tv converter boxes.I have 2 analog stereo tvs incl a 1989 RCA console tv.All i can say is WOW!!! The picture is clear & crisp,i get many more channels incl 2 movie classsic tv stations.

The sound is much better especially if you have a stereo tv.My 20 yr old tv picture/sound is like new. This is one transition i like & the govt didnt drop the ball on this one. With the RCA DTA800B1 converter box i get analog pass through, closed caption (my old tv dont have it),full & widescreen option, universal remote,on screen tv program listings & much more.

This is the best bang for your buck.Digital tv is really the way to go.I only wish they did it sooner.

Thanks so much for that first-hand experience! We wondered how it all works.

I'm not sure I understand your post. You have analog sets...correct? You cannot convert those sets to digital. What the converter box is doing, is converting the DIGITAL signals to analog, so that your analog TV can display them.

That's good news. Unfortunately, I got the coupons too early. I wanted them for 2 portable bedroom tv's that are not hooked up to my cable gateway. By the time Walmart got the converters in, my coupons had expired. I blame myself for noticing the expiration dates and not hustling to other stores to find the boxes.

Now the coupons are no good, so I either pitch the tv's, get my cable company to come out and connect to the bedrooms (expensive!), pay full price for the converter boxes, or get new tvs for the bedrooms. I'll probably just listen to the radio.

I purchased a box for my mother over the summer. She went ahead and made the transition, as has my grandmother. The quality is better, but the signal can be fickle. Sometimes the houses get very good signals and sometimes they just don't.
I do like the fact that with the new converter, the substations allow for my relatives to receive a few nonstop weather stations (I didn't know these channels existed until we upgraded to digital cable earlier in the year), as well as a new station or two. I wonder if more channels will be available once the country makes the official switch in February?
For those who can't afford to have cable, I would say that they will be pleasantly surprised to have the digital quality, unless the signal acts up!

I can afford it. I simply don't need or want it. Never have.

What in the world is wrong with you??? LOL, I'm joking I am too much of a couch potato...I have to have the extra channels, though I wish we had Direct TV as it seems to have more channels than what we get with Time Warner digital.

For some reason unknown i can no longer pick up channels 8-1 & 8-2.They are both in los angeles.I did get them both for a month or so but not now.8-1 is KFLA & 8-2 is HCCN.I really liked 8-2 cause its whitesprings tv & shows alot of classic movies & tv shows.See for yourself. http://whitesprings.tv
