Either way, it was one of my favorite shows. I liked the later years with Bubba and Iola better than the earlier years with Buzz and Sonya. It was interesting how Betty White and Rue McClanahan were on the show and Betty was the uppity one, while Rue was sort of home-type. Then years later they switched roles on the Golden Girls.
I think my favorite episodes were when Mama got jobs, once at a travel agency and another time working with Naomi at the Food Circus.
Overall, I think it was a great show just for depicting the humor in simple, midwestern Americans. Like how everything in their town was named "Ray" something (RayMart, etc.).

I laugh my butt off whenever I see the episode where Naomi's vacuum blows up on Mama and her carpet ends up with a big hole in it. She goes to court against Vint and Naomi to get them to pay for the carpet and they want her to replace the vacuum. Their antics in front of the judge are hilarious!
The episode where Ellen is dating a much-younger man and while they're in a restaurant, Mama and the clan show up, then sit down with them (uninvited) and Mama proceeds to embarrass Ellen in front of the whole place making cracks about her boyfriend.
Also the episode with Eunice where each character tells their version of how Mama ended up getting conked in the head with a cake pan!
I really miss shows like this...shows that made you actually laugh out loud. 'Golden Girls' and 'All In The Family' are two other ones that still crack me up after all these years.
Momma *Vicki Lawrence, came to Oklahoma last year. We saw her at the Firelake Grand casino. Her stand up comedy had me rolling in the first few minutes. I literally had tears running. Gosh, and her trips down memory lane about Carol and how she got started were really interesting.
She recounted how they had come up with the idea of Momma's Family and the first day of shooting Momma's skit, her and Carol were on their way to the studio in full costume and both had to go to the bathroom. Well, Vicki, I mean, Momma was in one stall and Carol was in the next and Momma realized she didn't have any toilet paper, so in her Momm's voice asked Carol Burnett to kindly pass the moon floss, and the skit went on and on ... in the bathroom prior to their first shooting. They knew it would be a hit.
When we saw her, it was like a rated R or X version of Momma. She even did a rap song. My god, it was great. The first half of the show was Vicki, then the last half was in Momma mode.
Apparently Vicki wrote to Carol Burnett because people told Vicki she looked like Carol. Then Carol Burnett went to a talent contest at Beverly Hills High School, and Vicki won the talent contest. And Carol invited her to be on the Carol Burnett show at age 18.
I liked Momma's Family with the Carol Burnett cast best.
Another interesting fact is that Allen Kayser (Bubba) graduated from Columbine High School
