Sound & Vision Magazine - HOME THEATER TUNE-UP
Above is one example of the DVD's out on the market you can use to help get the best possible picture and extend the life of your TV. These DVDs are affordable and easy to use. I bought the above for my analog TV. Watching it, I learned a lot about audio/video equipment and cable connections. It's recommended you close all the curtains and blinds, turn down the lights, and have your TV warmed up at least 30 minutes. Watching the DVD gets the TV warmed up enough. Write down your TVs current video settings before making adjustments. The DVD shows test patterns and how to use the test patterns to make adjustments. Once you're done, your tv is now as close to perfect as it's going to get without having a professional technician come to your home for over $200. This DVD should be used either once a year or once every two years. There is a different set of DVDs for HDTVs. If you do have an expensive HDTV, it would probably be best for you to spend the money to have a technician come to your home to calibrate your TV for optimum clarity and long television life. Certain video settings, if set to high, can reduce the life of your TV.
