Does anyone remember the name of the two 45-minute TV shows that ran back-to-back sometime during the late 60s/early 70s? It was a unique concept at the time (probably where Ted Turner got his idea to broadcast shows on TBS on the "5"), but the shows didn't seem to last long.

Every once in a while, I will remember the name of the first show, but never the second. Now I can't even remember the name of the first one!

Happy Friday!

I found it! While I was reading the response this morning, I remembered David Steinberg hosting one of the shows, so did a quick search. The first show, with Steinberg, was "Music Scene." The second one was "The New People," which was a lot like today's "Lost."

Whew, glad I got that mystery solved! If that was the most difficult of my tasks at hand, I'd be pretty lucky.

I have the pilot episode of The New People. It ran 45 minutes including commercials. None of the other episodes can be found but can be privately viewed at the TV museums in L.A. or NYC. Here's some screen captures from the show. Images don't appear correctly on this forum, so you'll have to copy and paste.

Great! I just remembered about these two shows. I remembered David Steinberg too but I was thinking he was with the New People. I remember that as being like Lost also.

Thanks so much, this question had been bothering me for months. I remember Steinberg used to stand in front of the bottom half of a huge gorilla for his commentaries. LOL

OLTV and GH were both 45 minutes.
GH started at 2:45, as OLTL ended.

OLTL had always aired behind GH, but when they went to 45 min. episodes, OLTL was moved earlier for some reason. And now that OLTL has been cancelled (sigh), GH stands to inherit that 2pm timeslot in September.

I think 45 minute soaps might be a good idea, actually.

Default All My Children

I think I remember All My Children being 30 minutes in the beginning, but then again my memory is sometimes like Swiss cheese.
