I think TLC needs to take responsibility for the shows they are running. One being Jon and Kate plus 8. I started thinking today after hearing a little about the single Mom who had 8 babies the message this show is sending. Now I'm not saying that this MOm watched this show but if you think about it the show now is sending a wrong idea. Many people watch these show like Jon and Kate and the Duggars. When Jon and Kate started it was based on showing the struggles of a family that had 6 children and twins. It showed day to day living. The joys and the hard times the help it took and expense to have and care for these children. Now it shows Vacations , perks, houses, Harir replacements. It is not about the what the show started . Other families who have 6 babies are struggling which is reality and this show makes Jon and Kate look like stars and get all these wonderful things because they had 6 babies and have this show.To those watching it might look great to try this. I think the Duggars are a little different because of the lifestyle they lead. I just think TLC needs start to show these families as realistic and for Jon and Kate stop showing everything they get from this show and having 6 kids or if they can't stand on their own as a family anymore and keep the viewers take them off.
What I now think of TLC would get me banned from City Data.
What I think of the media in general would get me thrown off the Island, however, I am in favor of the First Amendment and realize that I have the Power to choose what I see and hear.
I would be will to wager a trillion dollars or so that we would have fewer healthcare problems, less crime and a better quality of life if we all exercised this Power.
People choose what they want to watch on tv and it's not like TLC is just advertising fertility treatments during the commercial breaks.
I think MOST people are smart enough to realize that children will create a financial burden, unless you're a millionaire, billionaire, etc.
If you don't like the message the show is sending, just change the channel or heck, maybe try to pitch your own reality show idea?
I don't like Jon + Kate Plus 8 or the specials about the Duggars and you know what I do? I turn the channel.
It isn't TLC's fault that the woman in CA decided to have 8 babies. It's the fault of the fool of a fertility specialist who implanted the 8 embryos in her. This woman already had 6 kids so she probably didn't even have time to watch TV. JMHO.

About the lady with 8 babies.. since she already has kids she has to know what money it takes to raise them. According to what I've read her parents have filed bankruptcy helping her. At one place I go to someone said that maybe the state should take the kids away and give them to a few childless couples to raise.
Personally I don't think anyone would pay her to have a reality show. I don't think anyone will touch her story.
As far as shows like Jon & Kate, Little People Big World... if the show has made their lives easier to live, then great. If they are smart & put money in the bank, even greater. I don't feel we'll be watching them for more then another 2 years because as you say they are losing the original reason they're on the air as well as their appeal. It's TV.. we see what TLC wants us to see. Matt Roloff has long said that things don't happen the way we view them, things are taken out of context.
To those tired of watching, change the channel. No viewers mean no interest.
The people on the reality series are there for a reason because people wanted to see them. There have been other multiple specials that nothing ever came of, or it did like the AA family but after a few episodes it was gone. There has to be something special with the family to be featured and IMO so few have "it"

That's how I feel also. I could care less what an adult chooses for their own entertainment. Sometimes it's very relaxing to watch another family or person dealing with HUGE HEADACHES. It makes you feel better to see that your own life is nice & dull. lol
What upsets me greatly is the endless GARBAGE that is directed at minors.
The books, music, movies & TV are pushing sex and all sorts of things that parents must work SO hard to counteract. It's hard enough to teach children right from wrong and when they're fed a steady diet of WRONG and all their peers are absorbing this crap, it makes it nearly impossible to monitor all the bad influences that creep into their lives.
And with the internet and cell phone text messaging, it's not even just a question of monitoring what they're doing.... most kids are more savvy than their parents when it comes to technology.

More than amazing me how much cesspool entertainment gets on the air.....it's how many people actually WATCH it.
I've noticed a lot of 'gang' profiling shows on television as well. It may mean only entertainment to the adults watching, but it can be a whole different meaning to a bunch of teens out there thinking it looks like an exciting fast-buck lifestyle. However, they air what people watch....so it is hard to blame the networks/cable stations.
I do tend to blame the network/cable stations to a degree. For instance there are "safe" channels I let my kids watch but after hours some of those "safe" channels are now programming adult toy shows. TLC is the next one that has signed on to air such a show. How can a parent stop their older children from watching those channels when I have gone to bed? So now my young teens that are old enough to stay up later on weekends will have the opportunity to view such a show?
I have already blocked the Oxygen channel when it started airing sex toys so now I need to block TLC = The Learning Channel??? Who is deciding what and when my kids learn of such things???? Hmmmm It is almost time for this household to pull the satellite down.

If you're talking about Dr. Sue Johanson's show, she retired. I have seen her show in reruns on another network but can't remember which, Think Reality Channel or one of the Discovery channels.
