I liked the episode, except for the blatent political bits. The portrait of the agent was actually pretty good until the end when he tells Beckett that he isn't his job. He just has to act like that. We choose to act as we do, and it does reflect who we are. The whole thing with the gun, the way he casually tells her that he knew she wouldn't shoot.. she was no just playing along but thought he was going to shoot. It says much more about him that he would use her and everyone else around him.
I didn't like the whole "message" of the episode. It sounded like it was scropted by DHS. I don't watch cop shows because I'm tired of the old spiel they all put out. I nearly turned this one off before it was over.
I don't think the medic has a chance but I'm getting kinda tired of the "almost" together game. You can only pull this off so long and people get tired of it.
I did like the way Castle saw through the ruse becasue as a writer he has to have all the details correct to make the reader believe and it didn't wash. That part was good. I don't watch the show for the cop stuff, and probably wouldn't watch it at all if thats all it was. But the whole of him being a writer and it being much more about that is why I watch. As someone who writes for a hobby its neat to see.
It's very obvious that the folks at TV Guide have an agenda; David E. Kelley is one of the best writers in TV history, and those of us who enjoyed 'Boston Legal, 'The Practice', 'Ally McBeal' and all of his wonderful contributions to American television could care less what they think.
We all know what to expect out of a DEK series, and we've been voting with our remotes, DVR, and VCRs for decades.

I am so glad to hear someone else say that. I feel the same way and I can't figure out why they do!
we totally enjoy castle. we record it, so we saved the first episode and watched both parts in a row. it was really good. it was a much "tougher" episode than a typical light-hearted castle!
My wife and I love castle. We also love Fringe. In my view these two are the best TV shows around.
Of the not really "cop shows", Bones and Castle, I like Castle far better than anything. Personally I think it could be a classic. Fringe is so out there that its hard to consider it in the same genre with anything other than X Files.
